The Vietnamese Trade Office in Indonesia said that the Indonesian Government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the domestic textile and garment industry from the wave of textile and garment imports flooding the domestic market. Accordingly, at least two measures will be applied, namely anti-dumping tax and safeguard tax; safeguard tax rates can range from 100% to 200%.

In addition to textiles, the Indonesian government is also considering applying trade defense measures to groups of products such as electronics, footwear, tiles and cosmetics. The reason is that imported goods are flooding the market in the context of declining domestic production, causing many workers to lose their jobs.

Textiles, footwear, and electronics are the main and very important export items of Vietnam to the Indonesian market. The total export turnover of these groups of products is 1.5 billion USD, accounting for 30% of Vietnam's total export turnover to Indonesia in 2023. Of which, textiles and raw materials are 798.5 million USD, accounting for 15.7%; footwear is 100 million USD, accounting for 2%; computers, electronic products and components are 233.6 million USD, accounting for 5%, mobile phones are 368 million USD, accounting for 7.3%.

Therefore, the Vietnam Trade Office in Indonesia recommends that Vietnamese enterprises and export associations in related product groups closely monitor the market and consult relevant units of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Trade Office in Indonesia to have response solutions in case Indonesia applies defense measures related to Vietnamese export goods.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said it will direct the Vietnam Trade Office system in market areas to regularly update information on foreign market situations and regulations, standards, and conditions of foreign markets that may affect Vietnam's export activities and make recommendations to localities, associations, and export enterprises.
