(Dan Tri Newspaper) - With tangerines ripening just before Tet (Lunar New Year), the owner in Lam Dong decided to open his orchard to visitors for tours and harvesting experiences. Selling the fruit on-site and this new approach helped the owner earn hundreds of millions of dong.
These days, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh (41 years old), residing in Quang Lap commune, Don Duong district, Lam Dong province, and her relatives are busy welcoming visitors from within and outside the province to their tangerine orchard. At the orchard, visitors can enjoy ripe fruit, experience harvesting, and purchase products.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh said that her family used to cultivate bananas and some other crops to develop their economy , but the income was insignificant.

In 2016, after a trip to the Mekong Delta provinces, Ms. Quynh and her husband realized that developing mandarin orange cultivation could improve their income, so they decided to buy seedlings to start production.
"Using available capital and borrowed funds, the family converted 1 hectare of banana plantation to mandarin orange cultivation. After improving the soil, we installed a water-saving irrigation system and brought in new seedlings for planting."
"In the early days, due to a lack of experience, our family faced many difficulties in growing tangerines. Therefore, my husband and I had to visit tangerine orchards in the area to learn and acquire knowledge and production techniques," shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh.

According to the orchard owner, by 2019, the mandarin trees began to bear their first fruits, with a total yield of about 1 ton. From 2020 to the present, the orchard has been commercially producing 10-15 tons per year.
The tangerine orchard of Ms. Quynh's family will ripen and be ready for harvest between December 2024 and February 2025.
Ms. Quynh said: "In the 2023 harvest season, our family harvested 15 tons of tangerines, selling them at prices ranging from 25,000 to 40,000 VND per kilogram. This year, the tangerine yield is higher, and we expect to harvest around 17 tons. Our family is currently selling tangerines to partners and tourists at an average price of 25,000 VND per kilogram."

Ms. Quynh added that her family's tangerine orchard became "famous" during the Tet holiday in 2023. At that time, seeing tourists visiting the area and wanting to experience picking fruit in the orchard, the family opened it to visitors. Word spread, and this year, during the Tet tangerine season, Ms. Quynh's family welcomed dozens of visitors every day.
Thanks to improved productivity and a new approach, Nguyen Thi Nhu Quynh's family expects to earn hundreds of millions of dong from their tangerine crop this Tet season.

Currently, Quang Lap commune has about 1.4 hectares of tangerine orchards owned by local people that are ready for harvest, with Ms. Quynh's family owning 1 hectare.
It is known that tangerines have high economic value, contributing to improved income, so some households in Quang Lap commune are expanding their production area.
