According to Ms. Phan Diem Thuy, Deputy Director of Binh Duong Provincial Library, in recent years, the Provincial Library has made many efforts to bring books to the people through organizing visual propaganda and promotion activities, book competitions, book and newspaper exhibitions, and especially mobile service campaigns that combine book services with propaganda and guidance on skills, which have attracted a large number of interested readers.
These activities aim to build an open learning environment and promote lifelong learning. The Provincial Library pays particular attention to young readers, especially students.
This year, in accordance with the plan of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize the 4th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2025; and under the direction of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Binh Duong Provincial Library is implementing activities to celebrate Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day with the message "Reading Culture - Connecting the Community". The main activities include: promoting the significance of the 4th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2025; exhibiting new books, authors, and works about Binh Duong; interacting with the Family Reading Club; organizing field trips and extracurricular activities for 270 students from Petrus Ky Primary and Secondary School and other schools, English language centers, and preschool children to participate in activities and read at the Library; and coordinating with high schools and universities to issue library cards to students, teachers, and lecturers.
“Activities leading up to Vietnam Book Day aim to raise public awareness of the value, role, significance, and importance of books in social life. In addition, they honor those involved in collecting, writing, publishing, preserving, and promoting books; and simultaneously enhance the responsibility of all levels, sectors, and social organizations towards building and developing a reading culture, towards building a learning society and creating a beautiful cultural aspect in social life.” (Ms. Phan Diem Thuy, Deputy Director of Binh Duong Provincial Library) |
In addition to the 2025 Book Promotion and Introduction Contest with the theme "50 Years of National Flourishing," the second phase of the mobile book service program "Mobile Library Journey - Light of Knowledge" in 2025 will be held from April 17th to 25th, combining activities and propaganda on topics such as: Accessing libraries and effective reading skills; Developing self-protection skills for students to prevent and combat school violence; preventing and combating drug abuse in schools; preventing accidents, injuries, drowning, and fires at primary and secondary schools in the province.
On this occasion, the Provincial Library also coordinated with the Engineering Officers' School, the Cultural, Sports and Broadcasting Centers of districts and cities to organize book exhibitions and activities to serve the people in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, and in response to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21), World Book and Copyright Day (April 23)...
According to Dr. Ta Anh Thu, Head of the Department of Literature Pedagogy at Thu Dau Mot University, "Book and Reading Culture Day is not only an occasion to honor books, but also a gentle reminder of a quiet but enduring value: Reading to understand, reading to live a more beautiful life."
In a world filled with so much rush and noise, sitting down with a book is like having a conversation with a soulmate, and also like a dialogue with oneself. We listen to the voice of time, of people, of things we thought had fallen asleep in our hearts. Books not only give us knowledge, but also remind us how to live kindly, courageously, and compassionately – values that never go out of style,” shared Dr. Ta Anh Thu.
Currently, the Provincial Library holds approximately 600,000 books. Over time, the Provincial Library has been changing, updating, and supplementing its electronic resources to meet the growing needs of its readers. To date, the Provincial Library has digitized over 20,000 pages of documents on the geography of Binh Duong; purchased access rights to approximately 2 million electronic documents; and acquired copyrights for over 2,000 audiobooks to serve its diverse readership. |
