Many new techniques have been deployed, many difficult cases do not have to be transferred, now people in the mountainous district of Như Xuân have access to quality health care services right at the grassroots health level. That result partly comes from more than 2 years of support for the implementation of the Project "Piloting young volunteer doctors to work in mountainous, remote, border, island areas, areas with especially difficult socio-economic conditions" according to Decision No. 585/QD-BYT dated February 20, 2013 of the Ministry of Health (referred to as Project 585).
Working at Nhu Xuan District General Hospital since June 2021 under Project 585, specialist doctor I Vien Dinh Hai, born in 1992 (doctor of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital) quickly immersed himself in his work, enthusiastically serving the people. Along with examination, consultation, treatment and performing surgeries, procedures, professional consultations with specialties: emergency, obstetrics, internal medicine, interdisciplinary on issues related to surgery, Dr. Hai also actively supports training and technology transfer for doctors at Nhu Xuan District General Hospital. During more than 2 years of working at Nhu Xuan District General Hospital, Dr. Hai has participated in nearly 700 surgeries, surgical and obstetric procedures, transferring 12 new techniques, including many provincial techniques to the unit.
Doctor Vien Dinh Hai said: “Participating in the project is a valuable experience, and also an opportunity for me to contribute to bringing high-quality technical services to the people in the mountainous areas. I feel very happy. Really, only by going like this, working and being with colleagues, can I fully understand the difficulties of lower-level healthcare . At the central hospital, there are more dangerous and complicated cases than here, but thanks to the full equipment, modern machinery, and support from teachers and colleagues, everything is more favorable. At the lower level, I almost have to be more independent, responsible, more decisive, and sometimes nervous about my own decisions. With about 1 year left to work here, I will continue to try to further improve the quality of medical examination and treatment for local people.”
Master, Doctor Trinh Ngoc Han, Director of Nhu Xuan District General Hospital, said: As a class II hospital with a scale of over 200 beds, in recent years, Nhu Xuan District General Hospital has always paid attention to improving the quality of examination and treatment, taking advantage of support sources to invest in facilities, equipment and highly qualified human resources to serve the examination and treatment of patients. However, as a mountainous district, economic conditions are still difficult, attracting highly qualified doctors to work is very difficult. Participating in Project 585, the hospital has changed and developed clearly. Through Dr. Hai's connection with Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, many new techniques have been coordinated and implemented right at the hospital, such as: inguinal hernia surgery using the Lichtenstein method instead of the classical Bassini method; gastric perforation suturing technique; acromioclavicular joint dislocation surgery; implementation and routine surgery of anorectal diseases; urinary diseases; Performing 3-4 endoscopic surgeries... has helped patients save a lot of travel and treatment costs compared to going to higher-level hospitals.
