Changes in the revolutionary countryside of Khanh Thien

Visiting the revolutionary homeland of Khanh Thien commune (Yen Khanh district) in mid-August, we felt the clear changes here with a synchronous, clean, and beautiful traffic infrastructure system; increasingly developed trade and services; and improved spiritual life of the people. That development is an encouragement and motivation for Khanh Thien to continue promoting the revolutionary tradition, solidarity, and efforts to rise up and build an increasingly prosperous homeland.

Khanh Thien is not only a place with a long-standing cultural tradition but also rich in revolutionary tradition with many historical marks; in 2002, the commune was recognized as a "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" commune. The history of Khanh Thien Commune Party Committee recorded: During the period of the Indochina Democratic Front (1936 - 1939), in harmony with the struggle for people's livelihood and democracy throughout the country, the people of Khanh Thien enthusiastically stood up to "fight for the fields of the factions and the neighboring fields to divide for the people" as in Hieu Thien and Bong Hai villages.

In 1938, a struggle broke out against the French colonialists and their tax collectors at the Green Market. The victorious struggle made the people more excited and confident in their own strength and encouraged other movements to move forward, such as the movement to spread the national language and oppose the Japanese fascists' policy of uprooting rice and planting jute.

In late 1944 and early 1945, the anti-Japanese movement to save the country rose strongly. A number of political prisoners under house arrest in Yen Khanh (including Khanh Thien's children) secretly gathered to build a patriotic movement, actively propagating patriotism to the people.

In April 1945, a number of patriotic youths in Hieu Thien secretly campaigned to gain legal leadership in the "Youth Union", directing youth activities towards preparing for an uprising to seize power. That tradition of patriotism and resilience was nurtured and kindled in the succeeding generations.

Taking us to visit Thon Ba Temple, the birthplace of the first Party cell in Khanh Thien, which is also the predecessor of the Khanh Thien Commune Party Committee, Mr. Hoang Van Tuan, a member of the Veterans Association and Chairman of the Khanh Thien Commune Education Promotion Association, who is celebrating his 50th Party membership this year, said: On September 11, 1947, the first Party cell in Khanh Thien was established with 4 Party members, leading the people to overcome all difficulties and challenges, steadfastly coordinating closely with the army to fight the enemy to protect the homeland. Since then, revolutionary cadres have used Thon Ba Temple as a cradle to develop forces, build organizations, and be a place to meet and lead the people in resistance and fight against the enemy.

To educate the tradition of patriotism and national pride, every year on the country's major anniversaries, the Commune Veterans Association often organizes exchanges and traditional fire-breathing sessions for the younger generation about the fighting spirit of the army and people of Khanh Thien Commune in the resistance wars against invaders, so that the youth can appreciate the achievements of the revolution, thereby making efforts to contribute to building their homeland and country.

Through the resistance wars to protect the Fatherland, Khanh Thien commune has 145 martyrs, 12 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, 204 wounded and sick soldiers; nearly 400 veterans... Following the tradition of their ancestors, in the process of construction and development, the Party Committee, government and people of Khanh Thien are always united, striving to rise up, building the homeland more and more prosperous. Especially in the process of implementing the national goal of building new rural areas, Khanh Thien is always one of the leading units of the province.

Comrade Pham Hong Quang, Chairman of Khanh Thien Commune People's Committee, said: In 2013, Khanh Thien reached the NTM finish line, and in 2019, Khanh Thien was recognized by the province as a model NTM commune. Since then, Khanh Thien has always paid attention to improving the material and spiritual life of the people; investing in upgrading roads and cultural houses; improving the environmental landscape, continuing to improve the model NTM criteria.

To create a breakthrough in economic development and improve people's lives, every year, the Commune Party Committee has issued a specialized resolution on socio-economic development. In agricultural production development, the commune focuses on directing the application of scientific and technical advances; expanding the area of high-quality organic rice; renovating ponds to develop high-value crops, such as the snail farming model, helping people gradually increase their income. In addition, the commune continues to pay attention to expanding and developing small-scale industries and services, especially the culinary and ornamental plants industries.

Currently, the commune is actively developing a project to develop rural tourism associated with building new rural areas in the period of 2023 - 2030, with a vision to 2040, based on the strengths of the locality such as culinary craft villages and spiritual culture, promising to create a new space for residential areas and improve people's lives and income.

Recently, the Commune People's Committee has selected 2 culinary products of the commune to propose competent authorities to consider and recognize local OCOP products, thereby contributing to raising the stature and position of Khanh Thien. By promoting the diversification of local industries, the lives of people in the commune have improved significantly.

Up to now, the average income of the commune has reached 71 million VND/person/year. Along with that, Khanh Thien also focuses on building school facilities, improving the quality of education; taking care of people's health; promoting administrative procedure reform... At the same time, actively socializing the work of helping those in difficult circumstances, contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

Proud of the changes in her hometown, Mrs. Pham Thi Hoa (Phu Hau village) excitedly said: Khanh Thien has changed a lot compared to previous years. The most obvious are the flat concrete roads with rows of green trees and flowers, full of colors, making the rural landscape fresher and more vibrant.

Since having such clean and beautiful roads, the elderly have been more active in walking, cycling, and exercising; the youth enjoy taking photos and playing... In addition, electricity projects, schools, and medical stations serving people's lives have also been increasingly developed. Many houses have been newly built, repaired, and re-planned to be spacious and clean... It is a great joy to have our homeland as it is today, we will continue to try to preserve and develop it further. The results achieved today are the premise for the Party Committee, government, and people of Khanh Thien to continue writing the proud history of our homeland in the period of renovation.
