Going into the final day, Team World had a huge advantage, winning all three matches on Day 2 to lead 9-3. However, the Laver Cup format stipulates that each victory on the final day is worth 3 points, so the chance is still there for Team Europe.
The pair of Carlos Alcaraz-Casper Ruud gave the European team their first hope when they overcame Alex Michelsen-Reilly Opelka 7-6(4), 6-1, reducing the aggregate score to 6-9.
However, Australian Alex De Minaur immediately increased the gap when he defeated Czech Jakub Mensik 6-3, 6-4, bringing the total score to 12-6. Alcaraz then continued to keep the European team's hopes alive with a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory over Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo.
The deciding set was given to Alexander Zverev, who had the chance to level the score at 12-12 and take the match into a double playoff set.
However, the German player could not overcome Taylor Fritz, who was in good form and was supported by his teammates. Fritz ended the match with a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory.
Overall, this is the third time in eight seasons that the World team has won the tournament known as the “Ryder Cup” of men's tennis, and also the third consecutive time since 2022.
Hugs and cheers filled the Chase Center stadium at the crowning moment, ending an emotional Laver Cup under the leadership of the World team of legend Andre Agassi.
“We will definitely be popping champagne in the locker room. Playing in a team atmosphere always makes me want to give my all. When I see my teammates cheering on the bench, and see legends like Andre Agassi standing up to cheer me on, I can’t help but give my all for every point,” Taylor Fritz shared.
From the rebellious player of the 1990s to the calm coach, Andre Agassi wrote a memorable new chapter at the 2025 Laver Cup. In his first time as captain, succeeding the legendary John McEnroe, Agassi led Team World to the championship in his first season in charge.
“I didn’t have high expectations,” Andre Agassi said at the trophy presentation ceremony. “I came here with the mindset of learning, listening and connecting. Thank you for believing in me and giving me a place on the team.”
Young players like Taylor Fritz, Francisco Cerundolo, Joao Fonseca, Alex De Minaur, Jenson Brooksby, Reilly Opelka or Alex Michelsen - most of whom were born after Andre Agassi's peak, had the opportunity to listen and absorb the competitive spirit and tactical thinking from one of the greatest icons of modern tennis.
“You always hear about Agassi as a legend. And then you meet him, you realize he is not only great on the court but also a kind, intelligent and inspirational person. He comes and gives everything, including wisdom and emotion,” Reilly Opelka shared.
According to the announcement from the Organizing Committee, Laver Cup 2026 will be held at the O2 Arena (London, UK), which has witnessed many historic moments in world tennis.
After three consecutive championships, the World team will enter the next tournament as true “kings”, while the European team, under the leadership of Yannick Noah, will be determined to turn the tables.
