On October 12, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Que, Head of Kim Ngan Forest Ranger Department, said that the unit had just received two individuals of brown-throated hornbills (Anorrhinus austeni), a rare bird species belonging to group IB, voluntarily handed over by local people.

The person who handed over the birds was Mr. Ho Vali, residing in Ha Lec village, Kim Ngan commune, after discovering two baby birds had flown into his house.
Recognizing this as an endangered wild animal, Mr. Li proactively reported it to the forest rangers and handed it over for care and release back into the natural environment.
At the time of reception, both individuals were healthy. Kim Ngan Forest Ranger Department coordinated with the Rescue, Conservation and Development Center of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park to receive, care for, and restore their natural habits before releasing them back into the forest.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Que said that the brown hornbill has a characteristic brown plumage, belongs to the Hornbill family (Bucerotidae), lives in evergreen broadleaf forests and is rapidly declining due to habitat loss.
