Quang Tri people hand over a pig-tailed macaque

On September 25, Chairman of the People's Committee of Trieu Binh Commune, Quang Tri Province Nguyen Thanh Vu said that the unit had just coordinated with the forest rangers to receive a pig-tailed macaque body voluntarily handed over by local people to bring to the Rescue, Conservation and Development Center of living creatures under the Management Board of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.

Previously, at around 4pm on September 24, Mr. Nguyen Huu Nien (born in 1980, residing in Quang Dien village, Trieu Binh commune) discovered a monkey straying into his garden. He kept it and took care of it, and this morning handed it over to the authorities to be handed over to a state agency for management according to regulations.

The monkey has light gray-brown fur; weighs about 15kg, belongs to the pig-tailed macaque species (Macaca nemestrina). This animal is on the list of endangered, precious, and rare wild animals in group IIB, and is restricted from exploitation, captivity, and trade according to Vietnamese law.
