On the afternoon of September 22, the Vietnamese women's team officially entered the competition at the 19th ASIAD with a match against Nepal. Nepal is an opponent that coach Mai Duc Chung and his team have faced twice in the Olympic qualifiers.
With goals from Hai Yen and Bich Thuy in the second half, the Vietnamese women's team got their first 3 points.
Midfielder Thanh Nha and Van Su were on the bench. The Vietnamese women's team struggled to launch attacks and were unable to score an opening goal in the first 45 minutes of the match.
At the beginning of the second half, coach Mai Duc Chung decided to take Tuyet Dung and Thuy Hang off. Thanh Nha and Van Su were sent on as substitutes.
The deadlock was broken in the 53rd minute. Striker Pham Hai Yen was there in time to score a rebound past goalkeeper Subba. Before that, the goalkeeper of the Nepal women's team had blocked a shot from outside the penalty area by Bich Thuy.
The Vietnamese women's team doubled the gap in the 64th minute. From an attack on the left wing, Duong Thi Van crossed the ball beautifully for Bich Thuy to head in, raising the score to 2-0.
With this victory, the Vietnamese women's team temporarily leads Group D of the 19th ASIAD women's football event. Three days later, coach Mai Duc Chung's students will face the Bangladesh women's team.
