Coach Mai Duc Chung believes in the Vietnamese women's team

The Vietnamese women's team is having a smooth journey at the AFF Cup 2025, when they successively defeated Cambodia (6-0), Indonesia (7-0) and Thailand (1-0) to lead Group A. Since June, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team have had a series of 6 consecutive wins and clean sheets.

However, in the AFF Cup semi-finals, the Vietnamese women's team will face Australia. Although they only sent the U.23 team to play in the AFF Cup, Australia is still a strong opponent. The Oceania representative quickly rose from the 1-2 loss to Myanmar on the opening day, defeating the Philippines (1-0) and Timor Leste (9-0) to reach the semi-finals.

"The Vietnamese women's team is excited to prepare for this match. In my opinion, Vietnam and Australia have equal strength. The Australian women's team is very young and this tournament helps the young Australians prepare well for the national team. We hope to play well for the upcoming match. Hopefully, fans will come to the stadium to support the Vietnamese women's team," coach Mai Duc Chung shared at a press conference before the 2025 AFF Cup semi-finals.

When asked if playing at Lach Tray Stadium with tens of thousands of fans by our side was lucky for the Vietnamese women's team, Mr. Chung replied: "For us, playing anywhere in our homeland Vietnam is already lucky. The support of the audience helps the women's team have more confidence."

The Australian women's team is considered to be the better team, but coach Mai Duc Chung believes that the Vietnamese women's team has its own advantage, which is physical strength. Huynh Nhu and her teammates have one more day off (because the final match of Group A took place earlier) and do not have to travel.

Meanwhile, Australia played Group B at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho) and will arrive at Lach Tray Stadium ( Hai Phong ) on the last day to prepare for the semi-finals.

"We have the advantage of one more day of rest. At the same time, the Australian women's team has to travel from Phu Tho to here, but that is only an advantage in theory. The Australian players are young, strong and adapt quickly.

In the opening match, they had an unlucky loss to Myanmar. In the next match, Australia played well. We will face a tough opponent, but the whole team has prepared carefully. Every match is the same, once you enter the field, you have to try your best. The Vietnamese women's team just needs to try their best, I can't say anything about the rest yet," coach Mai Duc Chung revealed.

Huynh Nhu: Hope the audience will come to the stadium to support the women's team

At the press conference held at noon on August 15 in Hai Phong, striker Huynh Nhu shared: "This is not the first time the Vietnamese women's team has played at home. We played at Thong Nhat Stadium in 2014 (2015 World Cup qualifiers), or at the 31st SEA Games at Cam Pha Stadium ( Quang Ninh ). That is the motivation for the Vietnamese women's team to strive, hoping that in the upcoming match, more spectators will come, bringing a more wonderful atmosphere."

The striker born in 1991 also emphasized: "We know the schedule of the first round of V-League, Hai Phong will play in Nam Dinh also on the evening of August 16 (the match will take place at 6 pm). Everyone is worried that few spectators will come to the stadium, but for me, it is not a problem. Many fans from other provinces will come here to support. That will bring us confidence. Hopefully, many spectators will come to support the whole team.

It's the semi-finals so I feel very comfortable and confident, with familiar fans in the stands, that's a great source of motivation. As for whether I score or not, I will try my best to bring the best results for the Vietnamese women's team."
