Last night (June 10), the Vietnamese team suffered a 0-4 defeat against Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers at Bukit Jalil Stadium. This defeat severely affected coach Kim Sang Sik and his team's hopes of qualifying for the Asian Cup.

The Vietnamese team must wait for Malaysia to stumble against Nepal and Laos. Or we need to beat this opponent by a margin of 4 goals or more in the rematch at home in March next year.

Not only that, the Vietnamese team also dropped deeply in the FIFA rankings. According to the calculation of Football Ranking (based on FIFA's scoring formula), the "Golden Dragons" were deducted 13.99 points after losing to Malaysia.

That made the Vietnamese team drop 4 places to 113th in the world . This is regrettable because we have accumulated points in the past period to rise to 109th and are only about 40 points behind the top 100. This failure makes the effort to return to the top 100 of the "Golden Star Warriors" more difficult.

In December 2023, the Vietnamese team was still ranked 94th in the world. However, in just a short time (until October 2024), the "Golden Dragons" dropped to 119th, the lowest in many years.

On the other hand, Malaysia got 13.99 points and increased 5 places, reaching 126th place in the world.

Meanwhile, Thailand also lost 12.24 points and dropped 2 places to 101st in the world after losing 1-3 to Turkmenistan. Like the Vietnamese team, the "War Elephants" face a great risk of missing out on the 2027 Asian Cup.

Indonesia only lost 3.42 points after the 0-6 defeat to Japan. They are ranked 118th in the world, up 5 places from their previous ranking. In fact, Indonesia rose to 117th after the victory over China (plus 15.05 points) but dropped 1 place after the loss to Japan.

Coach Kluivert's team currently has 1,154.55 points. They are chasing the Vietnamese team very closely (1,169.84 points). The 15-point gap can be closed at any time if the "Golden Star Warriors" cannot improve the situation.

In the next round of matches taking place in October, the Vietnamese team will play two matches against Nepal. On October 9, we will welcome this opponent at home. On October 14, the "Golden Dragons" will visit Nepal.
