In the 2024 AFC Futsal Championship qualifiers, the Vietnamese team is in Group D with South Korea, Nepal and Mongolia. In Mongolia, coach Diego Giustozzi's team played impressively, winning all three matches, respectively against the host team (6-1), Nepal (5-0) and South Korea (5-2). With this achievement, the Vietnamese team won the right to attend the 2024 AFC Futsal Championship as the group winner and the remaining ticket belongs to the Korean team (second in Group D).
The 16 teams participating in the 2024 AFC Futsal Championship are: Thailand (host), Japan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Vietnam, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, South Korea, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Australia, China.

The seeding will be based on the teams' performance at the 2022 AFC Futsal Championship. Accordingly, the Vietnamese team is in the second seed group, along with Tajikistan, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The Thai team is the host so it is automatically in the first seed group, along with Japan (reigning champion), Iran (reigning runner-up) and Uzbekistan (3rd place).
The 16 teams participating in the 2024 AFC Futsal Championship will be divided into 4 groups, by drawing lots. The draw for the 2024 AFC Futsal Championship is scheduled to take place on December 14, 2023.
Vo Minh Tri (8) is a pillar of the Vietnamese futsal team.
In the group stage of the 2024 Asian Futsal Championship, teams will play a round-robin format to calculate rankings. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the quarter-finals. The 2024 Asian Futsal Championship is also the qualifying round for the 2024 Futsal World Cup (taking place in Uzbekistan, from September 14, 2024 to October 6, 2024).
Accordingly, the four teams participating in the semi-finals of the 2024 Asian Futsal Championship will qualify for the 2024 Futsal World Cup. If Uzbekistan (host of the 2024 Futsal World Cup) also reaches the semi-finals of the 2024 Asian Futsal Championship, the tournament organizers will hold a play-off to find one more team qualified for the World Cup.
The Vietnamese team is aiming to participate in the Futsal World Cup for the third consecutive time. Previously, Vietnam participated in the world's largest futsal tournament twice in 2016 and 2021.
