Vietnam team returns home after 2-0 win over Laos

On the afternoon of November 20, the Vietnamese men's football team returned home after a 2-0 victory over Laos in the second leg of the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers. This was also the team's last match in 2025, concluding a journey of hard work and many outstanding results.

According to statistics from the Vietnam Football Federation, in 2025, the Vietnamese team played a total of 8 international matches, achieving 7 wins and 1 loss.

Notably, the two victories against Thailand in the first and second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2024 finals (2-1 and 3-2). Entering the Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team continued to maintain stable performance with the following results: Winning Laos 5-0 and 2-0, winning Nepal 3-1 and 1-0.

The 0-4 loss to Malaysia was determined by the World Football Federation (FIFA) to have used 7 unqualified naturalized players. Before the official match, the team also had a friendly match, winning 2-1 against Cambodia at Binh Duong Stadium.

The positive performance helped the Vietnamese team move up one place to 110th in the world in FIFA's November 2025 rankings. The points from the 2-0 win over Laos were not included in this announcement and will be updated by FIFA in the next rankings, promising to bring further improvements.

After completing their national duties, the players will return to their home clubs to prepare for the year-end competition. Coach Kim Sang Sik and his coaching staff will travel to Vung Tau to join the U22 Vietnam team from November 23 to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games.

The Vietnam national team will gather again during the FIFA Days of 2026. The first session will take place in March 2026, where the team will play the second leg against Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers.
