Accordingly, in response to the difficulties of Can Gio residents in accessing health care services, especially poor people with chronic kidney disease who need dialysis, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has called on city hospitals to be ready to take turns deploying dialysis techniques in Can Gio instead of making poor people with kidney disease have to go to city hospitals for dialysis.
In response to this call, the leaders and the team of kidney specialists of Le Van Thinh Hospital have requested to deploy kidney dialysis for people in Can Gio district. To implement this, the Department of Health has directed relevant functional departments to proactively coordinate with Le Van Thinh Hospital and Can Gio District Medical Center to survey the actual location where kidney dialysis will be deployed.
After conducting the survey, we will complete all the necessary requirements for dialysis techniques, ensure compliance with regulations and organize a professional council to appraise and allow the implementation of dialysis techniques at Can Gio District Medical Center as soon as possible.
It is expected that dialysis will officially begin in early October 2023. The Department of Health said it will ask the City Social Insurance to consider paying dialysis costs for people with health insurance cards in accordance with regulations.
Can Gio District Medical Center (formerly Can Gio District Hospital) will provide dialysis for Can Gio residents with chronic kidney failure who are indicated for dialysis.
According to the plan, the RO system (which can accommodate up to 10 dialysis machines) and 5 dialysis machines will be installed and operated at Can Gio Medical Center in the first period. Regarding the medical staff directly performing dialysis techniques, Le Van Thinh Hospital will rotate teams including 1 doctor and 2 nurses from the Dialysis Department to Can Gio District Medical Center to directly perform dialysis techniques for patients.
The implementation of kidney dialysis in Can Gio district is also the starting signal of the process of re-establishing Can Gio district hospital by the city's health sector. The merger of the hospital into Can Gio district Medical Center in accordance with the provisions of Joint Circular No. 51/2015/TTLT-BYT-BNV (grade 3 hospitals must be merged into medical centers) has significantly impacted the access to technical services in health care of people living and working in Can Gio district, especially the poor.
Currently, the Department of Health is urgently completing and submitting to the City People's Committee the project "Strengthening and improving the medical capacity of Can Gio district from now until 2025 and the following years" with the goal of strengthening the capacity and ability to provide medical services to meet the needs of protecting, caring for and improving the health of people living and working in Can Gio district.
According to this project, Can Gio District Hospital will be re-established and directly under Can Gio District Medical Center (according to the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment No. 15/2023/QH15), effectively deploying technical services to meet the health care needs of Can Gio district residents, especially common chronic non-communicable diseases; coordinating with City hospitals to deploy specialized screening examinations and early detection of diseases for Can Gio residents.
