The dispatch stated that at 9:00 a.m. on August 16, the upstream water level of Son La Lake was at 199.03m, the downstream water level was 119.43m, the lake flow was 2,701 m3 /s, and the total downstream flow was 4,923 m3 /s.
Implementing the Inter-reservoir Operation Procedure on the Red River Basin in Decision No. 740/QD-TTg dated June 17, 2019 of the Prime Minister, Decision No. 922/QD-TTg dated May 14, 2025 of the Prime Minister amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Inter-reservoir Operation Procedure on the Red River Basin, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment ordered the Director of Son La Hydropower Company to close 1 bottom spillway gate of Son La Hydropower Reservoir at 8:00 p.m. on August 16.
At the same time, Son La Hydropower Company closely monitors the developments of floods and rains, construction safety, flow to the reservoir, water levels upstream and downstream of the reservoir to report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and relevant agencies as prescribed.
On the same day, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment also sent an official dispatch to the People's Committees of Son La and Phu Tho provinces regarding ensuring downstream safety when operating the Son La hydropower reservoir.
To ensure safety for constructions and riverside activities, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment requests that People's Committees notify authorities at all levels, people, and organizations operating on rivers and along rivers of information so that they can take measures to ensure safety and adjust activities accordingly.
Provinces report on the resolution of unusual issues to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment through the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control.
