The project “Replicating the red lingzhi mushroom cultivation model” implemented by the Lam Dong Province Center for Science and Technology Application (hereinafter referred to as the Center) in Lat Commune, Lac Duong has created favorable conditions for the development of precious medicinal material areas for human health care. Thereby, contributing to the development of household economy , improving the lives and converting crops of ethnic minorities.

After more than 1 year of implementation, the experts and engineers of the Center have selected 4 households to participate in the project, including: Ro Ong K'Thien (Pang Tieng village), Lieng Hot Ha Sim (Da Nghit village), Cil Ju Sep (Da Nghit village), Lo Mu K'Vuong (Pang Tieng village). The selected households are all Cil and Lach people with enough labor, the ability to access technical advances and committed to following the project's technical process: mushroom growing house, misting irrigation system, suitable shelves.
From pure red reishi mushroom source, the Center has produced level 2 mushroom breed; produced 12,000 bags of mixed spawn according to the formula: 990 g of new rubber sawdust, 50 g of rice bran, 50 g of corn bran, 10 g of CaCO3, ensuring productivity and quality.
After inoculating the seeds into the spawn bags, regularly monitor the temperature and humidity during the incubation period. When the mycelium spreads to 2/3 of the spawn bag, bring it into the house and remove the bags infected with green mold or orange mold. 4 households are provided with 3,000 spawn bags/household; weight 1.1 kg/bag.
With dedicated hands-on guidance, the Center's experts and technicians have guided each household in detail from building a mushroom house, installing an irrigation system, airy shelves, sawdust mixing formula, to mycelium incubation techniques, planting techniques, care, monitoring the growth process, harvesting, and preserving lingzhi mushrooms.

Accordingly, the mushroom growing house is 50 m2 /household, dome-shaped, fixed open, with nylon on the roof, surrounded by insect-proof net, 80-cell/cm2 insect-proof net and black net that reduces 75% of light, designed to avoid drafts, sunlight can shine on both sides, throughout the length of the mushroom growing house, cement-coated floor, drainage.
The misting irrigation system ensures temperature conditions of 21 - 260C, humidity of 60 -70% suitable for growing Ganoderma mushrooms. The 4-tier mushroom growing shelf is made of square steel with dimensions of 1.4 m x 0.6 m x 2 m. Each mushroom house has 8 shelves, 1 shelf is enough to hold 400 bags of spawn.
After the mushroom spawn is sterilized by autoclaving and inoculated with the mushroom spawn, the bag of mushroom spawn is transferred to the mycelium incubation house with controlled temperature and humidity. Monitor the temperature and humidity in the mycelium incubation house from the time the spawn is inoculated until the mycelium covers the bag of spawn, which lasts 37 - 40 days.
Transfer the mushroom spawn bag to the mushroom growing house, monitor and control the temperature, humidity, and appropriate light. With a temperature of 21 - 25oC, humidity of 82 - 86%, light intensity of about 545 lux, after about 15 days, the mushrooms will form fruiting bodies. When the mushroom fruiting bodies form, each spawn bag may create many fruiting body buds, competing for substrates, reducing productivity and quality. Therefore, it is necessary to prune them, leaving only 1 best fruiting body bud. From the time the fruiting body buds appear, after about 60 days, they will be harvested.
Thanks to proper care according to the instructions, after 75 days of cultivation, the fruiting bodies of the Ganoderma lucidum harvested at Mr. Ro Ong K'Thien's household weighed up to 54 g/fruiting body. The productivity at Mr. Lo Mu K'Vuong's and Lieng hot Ha Sim's households was uniform, ranging from 52-54 g/fruiting body in the first harvest. After 2 harvests, 3,000 bags of mushroom spawn from Ha Sim's household yielded a total of 244.7 kg of fresh mushrooms and 81.59 kg of dried mushrooms; Cil Ju Sep's household yielded a total of 229.3 kg of fresh mushrooms and 76.4 kg of dried mushrooms.
From 12,000 bags of mushroom spawn provided by the Center, the total harvest of 4 households participating in the project was 928.45 kg, drying 309.48 kg of dried mushrooms. Technicians assessed that this is a much higher yield than red reishi mushrooms grown in neighboring districts in the province. With a food safety certificate and registered trademark for dried red reishi mushrooms on the market, the Center is the focal point for purchasing harvested mushroom products from households participating in the project. With the implementation of the project following the correct technical process, the harvested red reishi mushroom products all meet the purchasing standards set by the Center such as: The mushroom fruiting body is kidney-shaped, has mushroom ears and dark brown mushroom stems; the upper surface of the mushroom fruiting body has spore dust; the lower surface of the mushroom fruiting body has a characteristic lemon yellow color; the weight and size all meet the targets.
With the agreed fresh mushroom price at the time of harvest, type 1 mushrooms cost 200,000 VND/kg; type 2 mushrooms cost 150,000 VND/kg, up to now, the Center has purchased all 928.4 kg of fresh mushrooms produced by 4 households participating in the project; of which 635.2 kg are type 1 mushrooms and 239.2 kg are type 2 mushrooms; 309.48 kg of dried mushrooms have been dried and brought to the market. After the project ends, the model of households in Lat commune will continue to be maintained, the Center will continue to cooperate in purchasing red lingzhi mushrooms in the following crops.

The results show that, on an area of 200 m2 , a farming household, if investing in planting 12,000 bags of red reishi mushroom spawn in 4 months, will earn a total of 162.9 million VND; minus the cost of spawn bags, care and harvesting, electricity, water, and depreciation of the growing house of 112 million VND; the profit is 50.9 million VND. It is estimated that planting 3 crops per year can earn a profit of 152.8 million VND/year/200 m2 . The economic efficiency is higher than that of other crops.

Red Ganoderma is considered a precious medicinal herb with wonderful effects in curing diseases, improving health, detoxifying and beautifying. High prices on the market, depleted natural resources, the cultivation of Ganoderma to serve human health is raised, especially for suitable climates.

From the project's achievements, the Center coordinated with the People's Committee of Lat commune to organize a workshop to introduce red lingzhi mushroom models to 40 households of ethnic minorities in Lac Duong district. Guided households to visit the red lingzhi mushroom growing model in 4 households, through which the households approached and grasped the technical process of planting, caring, harvesting and preserving red lingzhi mushrooms. Mr. Ro Ong K'Thien (Pang Tieng village, Lat commune) expressed: "The project of bringing the red lingzhi mushroom growing model to Lat commune has helped our people approach and grasp advanced science and technology, apply it to production life, create jobs, and increase income for farmers".
From the success of the project and the signing of a product consumption contract with the Center for Science and Technology Application of Lam Dong province, the People's Committee of Lat commune has implemented a project to produce red lingzhi mushrooms according to the value chain from the commune's capital for many households in the commune. Thereby, the model is continuously expanded, helping to transform agricultural and forestry by-products into valuable commodities, developing the profession of cultivating medicinal mushrooms into a local red lingzhi mushroom raw material area, creating good functional foods to take care of human health.
