Lang Son's economy has had positive growth, specifically in 2024, the economic index measuring the total value of final products and services in the area (GRDP) is estimated at 7.8%. Notably, the private economic sector in the province plays a very important role, annually contributing about 63% of local GRDP and 15% of the budget revenue in the whole Lang Son province.
In addition, efforts to improve the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) have also recorded positive results: Lang Son has continuously maintained its position in the top 30, with rankings of 13, 15, and 16 in the last three years. Particularly in infrastructure development, Lang Son province has always seriously implemented its commitment to support businesses in accessing land, credit, technology, and markets. In particular, the Lang Son provincial government is accelerating the implementation of the Smart Border Gate Project according to the Government's direction, considering this a breakthrough in reforming procedures and increasing customs clearance capacity. In April 2025, Lang Son province was also recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark, opening up great prospects for developing ecotourism, culture, etc.
However, when analyzing and clarifying the special role of the land with many potentials such as: border gate economy, indigenous agriculture, cultural - ecological tourism... Mr. La Giang Nam, Chairman of the Young Entrepreneurs Association of Lang Son province, said that in order for local start-up businesses to develop, more flexible mechanisms and policies that are truly suitable for the reality of this remote border region are needed. Because in reality, the gap between policy thinking and implementation at the local level is posing an urgent need to concretize important Central Resolutions with substantive actions, suitable for the conditions of each locality.
From another perspective, Mr. Nong Ngoc Trung, Vice President of Lang Son Young Entrepreneurs Association, said that digital transformation, international integration, legal reform and startup support are the key points that need attention, but what businesses expect most is still a fair, transparent and accessible ecosystem.
For example, with Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, according to Mr. Trung, if local startups are only heard about but not given space to realize, they will continue to withdraw, give up, or fall into opportunistic, informal business models.
Because Mr. Trung believes that if there are no specific policies for localities, especially in the midland and mountainous provinces in the North, these innovation targets will only be concentrated in large cities, and the development gap between regions will increasingly widen. If this trend continues, the local innovation startup ecosystem will be eliminated, causing waste of resources, slowing down the national digital transformation process and increasing dependence on a few large economic centers. "Innovation startups in mountainous areas do not require too many incentives, just a healthy competitive environment and equal access to the public-private market."
Acknowledging the contributions and enthusiastic suggestions of the private economic sector and the Lang Son Young Entrepreneurs Association for the overall development of the province in recent times, Mr. Doan Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lang Son province, shared that the "key quartet" of the Central Resolution not only guides the national strategy but also opens up opportunities to comprehensively change the development method for localities in the northern midland and mountainous regions, including Lang Son province.
Mr. Doan Thanh Son emphasized that we need to consider this as a basis for the locality to perfect policies and improve the investment environment. The government always expects young entrepreneurs in the province to boldly share their proposals, while enhancing digital transformation capacity, innovating business models, and aiming for sustainable development. Listening to the voices of businesses, especially in the private sector, will be an important criterion for adjusting policies, ensuring that they are consistent with reality and close to needs. The key role of the private economic sector is clear, especially the young entrepreneurs in local economic development. The provincial government will always accompany businesses, considering the development of businesses as an important driving force to accelerate the process of transforming the growth model, applying technology, and exploiting the potential of border areas.
With strong commitments to building a friendly, transparent and dynamic investment ecosystem, Lang Son aims to be not only a destination, but also a strategic partner of the business community in the process of national sustainable development.
