Specifically, CDC Dong Nai informed that this rabid dog bit 4 people, and so far all 4 cases have been injected with serum and rabies vaccines.
The results of the epidemiological investigation showed that Mr. THP's family in Binh Lam hamlet raised 2 stray dogs and 2 cats, all of which had not been vaccinated against rabies, were free-range and not muzzled, and still had daily contact with other dogs in the area.

On August 17, a dog showed signs of abnormal hyperactivity, scratching, biting, and a change in temperament. On August 18, the above symptoms became more severe, with convulsions and more aggression, and then bit a cat in the house to death.
That same evening, the dog began to drool, its eyes rolled back in red, and it became confused, and by noon on August 19, the dog died. Upon discovering the dog like that, Mr. P. reported to the Long Thanh District Medical Center and the district's Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station to take samples for testing. On August 20, the provincial Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department returned the test results that the dog was positive for rabies virus.
Previously, around April 2023, a strange dog appeared in the area around Mr. P's house, this was a native dog, estimated to weigh about 10kg, it attacked the rabid dog mentioned above, it is not known whether it attacked other dogs or not. After a few days, the strange dog died, the cause is unknown.
The results of the above epidemiological investigation show that it is not yet possible to assess whether the source of rabies infection is due to animals brought from other regions or locally, but it is necessary to pay attention and be vigilant with strange dogs.
The rate of rabies in the dog population in the area is very high due to the spread of the disease from contact with the rabid dog. Households in the area raise many dogs and cats and have not been controlled. According to a preliminary investigation of 19 surrounding households, the vaccination rate is low, only about 7%, and they are free-range and not muzzled, so they can easily bite many people, especially children.
Thus, this is the second outbreak of rabies in dogs in Long Thanh district since the beginning of 2023 (1 outbreak in An Phuoc commune, 1 outbreak in Loc An commune). Also according to information from Long Thanh Medical Center, in the past time, the number of people coming to get rabies vaccination has increased dramatically, specifically in June there were 958 people and in July 2023 there were 1,075 people.
