According to Reuters, John Schulman announced on social media platform X that he was leaving OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, to join rival company Anthropic.
"My decision stems from a desire to focus more deeply on artificial intelligence (AI) and begin a new chapter in my career, where I can return to practical engineering," Schulman wrote on X on August 5.
Additionally, the Information website reported that another OpenAI executive, Peter Deng, also left the company.
Meanwhile, OpenAI chairman and co-founder Greg Brockman announced that he will be taking a leave of absence until the end of 2024.
The technology company has yet to comment to the media.
According to Reuters, OpenAI's leaders are leaving amid significant personnel changes at the company, following the transfer of computer scientist Aleksander Madry, head of AI security, to another department at the end of July.
Previously, the two co-founders of OpenAI, Ilya Sutskever and Andrej Karpathy, left the company in May and February of this year, respectively.
OpenAI was founded in 2015 by a team including Sam Altman, then Chairman of YC Group, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, and several other members.
In February 2018, billionaire Musk left OpenAI after a battle for control and management of the company.
However, on August 5th, the Tesla CEO unexpectedly reopened the lawsuit against OpenAI's current CEO, Altman, accusing the company of prioritizing profit and commercial interests over the public good.
