The Cambodian U22 team gathered for the first day yesterday (November 27), with the participation of two players who are playing abroad in New Zealand and Canada. At the same time, the Cambodian Olympic Committee sent a dispatch to Colonel Chaiyaphak Siriwat (Vice President of the Olympic Committee and Chairman of the SEA Games Executive Council) to inform the Cambodian sports delegation to withdraw from 8 sports at the SEA Games, including men's and women's football.

The Daily News expressed surprise at the move of U22 Cambodia: "They know nothing, the U22 Cambodia team is still training normally even though they have withdrawn from SEA Games 33."
The Cambodian Football Federation's Facebook page also posted photos of the team's training session, along with the caption: "Cambodia U22 team training in preparation for the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand. Together we strive for Cambodia."
Khmertimeskh (Cambodia) newspaper confirmed: “The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) and the Ministry of Education , Youth and Sports have issued a notice on the SEA Games. Accordingly, for the safety of athletes, NOCC has reduced the number of competitions in flooded areas in Songkhla and some other places.

The Cambodian sports delegation is down to 150 people, competing in 13 sports. This is the proactive spirit and difficult decision of NOCC, to ensure the participation and safety of Cambodian sports delegations."
Previously, Cambodia sent 333 athletes in 21 sports to participate in the 33rd SEA Games. However, they did not participate in 8 sports: football (men's and women's), judo, karate, pentathlon, petanque, wrestling, wushu and sepak takraw.
According to information from the Daily News (Thailand), the SEA Games organizing committee may redraw the men's football tournament when group A has only two teams, Thailand and Timor Leste, after Cambodia withdrew.
