According to the Phnom Penh Post, the Cambodian sports delegation's leadership has established a special intervention team to monitor, evaluate the situation and manage Cambodian athletes.
Accordingly, the leadership wants to ensure security for athletes and respond immediately if a crisis occurs during the 33rd SEA Games.
The Special Intervention Team’s mission is to maintain contact with the Thai authorities. In addition, this team also builds a comprehensive security plan for the athletes and ensures management in case of unexpected incidents.
In addition, the team will implement security guidelines to ensure the safety of Cambodian athletes during their travel, stay and competition. Closely coordinate with the 33rd SEA Games Organizing Committee to promptly report any incidents.
In the event of a serious crisis, the special intervention team will assist the Cambodian team in carrying out procedures before bringing the Cambodian team back home.
Also according to the Phnom Penh Post , some Cambodian people disagreed with sending a Cambodian sports delegation to the 33rd SEA Games due to security concerns.
Faced with that context, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), Mr. Vath Chamroeun, explained Cambodia's participation in the 33rd SEA Games.
Mr Chamroeun said that as a member of the SEAGF (Southeast Asian Games Federation) and the regional Olympic movement, Cambodia has an obligation to participate in regional sporting events. Failure to participate would mean violating the Olympic and SEAGF regulations.
On the evening of November 27, the Cambodian Olympic Committee informed the host country Thailand about withdrawing from 8 sports at the 33rd SEA Games, including football. Thus, this country will only compete in 13 sports.
