Recently, many investment funds and large corporations from Canada, China, etc. have increased their search for cooperation opportunities with Vietnam in many fields.
“All countries recognize Vietnam as a rising star, not only in Asia but also in the entire region including India and the Pacific ... This is reflected in the very rapid growth of GDP per capita, which has now reached 5,000 USD/person.
“The young population and the middle class are really growing. I emphasize the two words really, because many Southeast Asian countries also say they are growing their middle class. But when I dig deeper, I find that it is only at the beginning, unlike Vietnam,” Mr. Barrett Bingley, Director of Asia, Asia Pacific Foundation (APF Canada), shared at the Momentum Ho Chi Minh City event held on the morning of November 27.
Momentum Ho Chi Minh City is part of the Canada-in-Asia Conference (CIAC26) to strengthen trade, investment and innovation relations. The Canadian fund representative emphasized that although Vietnam is a new market, it has a “particularly important” position in the Asian region.
Not only coming from internal strength as mentioned above, he especially emphasized that the Vietnamese Government is very open and deeply involved in many trade policies, including CPTPP - Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership between 11 countries (including Canada).
“Especially since the CPTPP came into effect, trade between Vietnam and Canada has increased significantly. Statistics for the period 2019-2024 show that exports from Canada to Vietnam increased by 98.7% in goods, and by 17% in services. Currently, the value of Canadian exports to Vietnam has reached the billion USD mark, including soybean products, beef…”, said Mr. Barrett Bingley.
In the opposite direction, the export turnover from Vietnam to Canada is nearly 15 times higher, with the total value reaching 14.7 billion USD in 2024. It is known that Vietnam mainly exports electronic products, garments, furniture, etc. to Canada. In recent years, Vietnam has also increased the export of aquatic products (shrimp, fish) to Canada.
In the coming time, with the Canada-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement (ACAFTA) expected to complete final negotiations in 2026, the representative of APF Canada expects trade between the two countries to continue to grow. In particular, Mr. Barrett Binley expressed his desire to find long-term partners in Vietnam in Canada's strong field of natural gas (LNG...).

On the same afternoon, many large enterprises from China also promoted trade through Vietnam, as noted at the workshop "Promoting investment cooperation and connecting Vietnamese - Chinese enterprises in the new era" within the framework of the Autumn Economic Forum 2025.
Here, the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (HCMC C4IR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sunwah Group. Sunwah (China) of Mr. Jonathan Choi continues to seek projects in real estate, education, healthcare, technology and logistics associated with smart urban development in Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular.
Mr. Yang Wen Bin, Chief Supervisor of the Chinese Business Association in Vietnam (HCMC Branch), said that there is still a lot of room for cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese enterprises. This is happening in the context of many changes in the regional and global economy.
The Association wishes to continue accompanying C4IR and partners, aiming to promote cooperation in the fields of digital economy, smart cities, future technology and green production.
Previously, a series of other large enterprises including Foxconn, Qualcomm, Siemens, Amazon... also expressed active interest in expanding investment in Vietnam.
