DTO - In order to create favorable conditions for red-crowned cranes to live and develop, over the past two years, a "green revolution" has quietly taken place in the core and buffer zones of Tram Chim National Park. Farmers in the buffer zone of Tram Chim National Park have switched to organic rice cultivation, the government has made efforts to invest in ecosystem restoration, all for the common goal of restoring the ecosystem of Tram Chim National Park so that red-crowned cranes have a place to live, develop and stay long-term in their homeland of Dong Thap .

Strong recovery of Kim Son in Tram Chim National Park

Over the past two years, a small community including Mr. Nguyen Van Man, residing in Phu Xuan hamlet, Phu Duc commune, Tam Nong district, and farmers in Phu Duc commune, Tan Cong Sinh commune, Tam Nong district have together created a meaningful journey. These farmers decided to switch to organic rice farming, not only for their livelihood but also because they wanted to return to nature a green land where red-crowned cranes can thrive. This action is not only a personal choice but also the heart of the whole community towards the ecosystem of Tram Chim National Park.

Mr. Nguyen Van Man, residing in Phu Xuan hamlet, Phu Duc commune, Tam Nong district, shared: “When I heard that the province was implementing the Project to conserve and develop red-crowned cranes in Tram Chim National Park for the period 2022 - 2032, I felt excited. For the past few years, I have not seen the red-crowned cranes return to Tram Chim National Park, and my heart has been heavy. I feel like I have lost a close friend. Therefore, when the government called for switching to organic rice cultivation, I did not need to think and immediately registered. I hope that with this method, the environment will be cleaner and there will be more food for the cranes. Although I know that restoring the habitat for cranes is not a matter of a day or two, I believe that with the cooperation of the people, one day, the cry of the red-crowned crane will echo throughout the area again. At that time, my grandchildren will be able to see this rare bird with their own eyes, not just hear it told like stories. old times too".

Organic rice production in Phu Duc commune, Tam Dao district, in the buffer zone of Tram Chim National Park

Currently, to expand the organic rice production area in the buffer zone of Tram Chim National Park, Tam Nong District People's Committee has implemented many solutions. In particular, promoting and mobilizing people to expand the organic rice cultivation area, it is expected that in 2025 Tam Nong District will expand the area by about 757.5 hectares. At the same time, to make the production chain more sustainable, the locality is also calling on businesses to join farmers in cooperation to create clean rice material areas. In particular, to increase the value of organic rice products, Tam Nong District is also building a product brand for "Tam Nong Crane Rice". This is not simply a rice brand but also the passion and heart of the government and people of Tam Nong.

Along with the restoration of the ecosystem in the buffer zone of Tram Chim National Park, over the past 2 years, the ecosystem in the core zone of Tram Chim National Park has also been actively restored, especially in areas with large sandbanks, where many years ago red-crowned cranes chose as landing sites to forage.

The tamarind field in subdivision A4 has been actively restored by Tram Chim National Park over the past 2 years.

The sandbank in the Quyet Thang Protection Station, Sub-area A4, Tram Chim National Park, which is a favorite habitat of red-crowned cranes, has been significantly revived in recent years. Thanks to the timely intervention of experts and reasonable hydrological regulation, the sandbank population has gradually recovered. The process of tilling the soil has helped the sandbank photosynthesize more effectively, creating conditions for them to germinate and develop tubers. The removal of competing plants such as sandbanks has created an ideal living space for the sandbank to develop.

Mr. Do Minh Chanh, a security guard directly in charge of the Quyet Thang Security Station, Tram Chim National Park, shared: "The recovery of the crane is an extremely positive signal, opening up hope that the red-crowned crane will soon return to live in Tram Chim National Park."

Mr. Bui Thanh Phong - Deputy Director of Tram Chim National Park said that the ecosystem restoration work at Tram Chim National Park has achieved remarkable results. Technical staff have implemented many solutions such as: plowing and restoring the fields of yam, the favorite food source of many bird species, especially red-crowned cranes. In addition, the restoration of wild rice habitats and natural flooded areas has contributed to recreating the typical habitat of Dong Thap Muoi. Thanks to these efforts, biodiversity at Tram Chim National Park has been significantly improved, creating favorable conditions for the growth and development of rare flora and fauna species, while preserving the unique natural heritage values of this land.

Determined to create an ideal living environment for red-crowned cranes, the authorities and people of Dong Thap have made constant efforts to implement many solutions to protect and restore the ecosystem of Tram Chim National Park. The results achieved in recent times are very encouraging. The reappearance of many rare bird species, especially cranes, has proven that conservation activities are on the right track. This is a positive signal, affirming the initial success of the Red-crowned Crane Conservation and Development Project for the period 2022 - 2032. This success not only contributes to protecting biodiversity but also enhances the value of Tram Chim National Park, contributing to the socio -economic development of the locality.
