The specific objective of the project is to improve the capacity, knowledge and skills of the grassroots health staff, health staff at health centers and hospitals with waiting rooms in Yen Bai province. Provide knowledge and skills in health care for mothers and children through awareness of nutrition in preventing malnutrition, overweight and obesity in children. Develop a toolkit "Green Box" and tools and utensils to serve as a means of communication and create useful activities for children. Strengthen physical education for children to improve children's health.
The direct beneficiaries of the project are all women coming for prenatal check-ups, mothers and caregivers, children, especially children under 5 years old, who come for check-ups at 10 waiting rooms at provincial health facilities, regional health centers, and health stations implementing the project. Health workers at regional health centers and health stations are provided with improved knowledge and skills in communication and education to improve maternal and child health.
10 waiting rooms of the project at: Obstetrics and Pediatrics Center, Van Yen Regional Medical Center, Dong Cuong Medical Station, Luc Yen Regional Medical Center, Minh Xuan Medical Station, Yen Bai Regional Medical Center, Tran Yen Regional Medical Center, Viet Cuong Regional General Clinic and 03 Regional Medical Centers that do not have waiting rooms: Van Chan, Tram Tau, Mu Cang Chai.
From May 2024 to July 2025: The project's waiting rooms have organized 821 consultation sessions, with 5,414 customers attending and organized 47 sessions of nutritional practice guidance on cooking porridge and powder for children to properly supplement their diets for mothers and caregivers.
At the physical education area at the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Center, General Hospital No. 1, the physical education area has operated 104 sessions for 13 children with developmental disorders and provided one-on-one individual intervention counseling to families to improve motor skills, enhance cognition, and improve social interaction.
The operating medical staff participated in the training course, studied and practiced in Val-der-marne province, were provided with training materials, communication materials and had professional support from experts from Val-der-marne province (France). Using physical education activity modules suitable for each child's age, the modules can be changed in each exercise session, arranged appropriately and stimulated children to be active (there are no specific rules for arranging the modules in each exercise session).
Up to now, the project "Supporting the improvement of maternal and child health in Yen Bai province" has been completed, achieving many practical results. The Project Management Board proposed that the Val-de-Marne Provincial Council (France), Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Health continue to pay attention and consider funding the next phase to maintain and expand the model of waiting rooms and physical education areas, contributing to improving health indicators for people in the province.
