According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, there is a possibility of many dangerous weather patterns appearing from October 12 to November 10.
Specifically, from October 12 to November 10, there will be about 1-2 storms and tropical depressions that may affect the mainland of our country; areas that have been and are being flooded such as Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Bac Ninh ... may be affected by rain in the next 3 days.
Possibility of storms, tropical depressions and heavy rain
Deputy Head of Climate Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Tran Thi Chuc said that in the East Sea area, there is a possibility of 2-3 storms and tropical depressions appearing and 1-2 storms can affect Vietnam's mainland (the average for many years in the East Sea is 1.8 storms, making landfall in Vietnam is 0.8 storms).
Regarding the widespread rain situation, Ms. Tran Thi Chuc said that there is a possibility of widespread heavy rain in the Northern region and Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces.
Specifically, due to the influence of weak cold air combined with the westward encroachment of subtropical high pressure, from the afternoon of October 13 to the night of October 15, the Northern and North Central regions are likely to have rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms, with some places having heavy to very heavy rain.
Flooded areas such as Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, and Bac Ninh are also likely to be affected by this rain.
From the afternoon of October 13 to the night of October 15, Hanoi will have moderate rain and thunderstorms, with some areas having heavy to very heavy rain. Thunderstorms may include tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.

In the late afternoon and night, the Central Highlands and the South will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain, and intermittent sunshine during the day. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.
In addition, the provinces from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai from October 16 to November 10 are also likely to experience some widespread heavy rains; other areas may have many days of showers and thunderstorms; in which, some days may have moderate to heavy rain.
Total rainfall in common areas is approximately equal to the average of many years, especially in provinces from Ha Tinh to Quang Ngai where total rainfall is 20-40% higher than the average of many years in the same period.
Hydrological experts warn that October is the most obvious transitional period of the year in the North. Cold air, when flowing down, often combines with moist air masses from the sea, causing scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy rain.
Heavy rain can cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods in small rivers and streams; and landslides on steep slopes.
Cold air is likely to be strong in November and December.
Regarding the cold air situation, according to Ms. Tran Thi Chuc, during this period, cold air continues to have a tendency to operate and increase in frequency and intensity, with the possibility of strong activity in November and December, and severe cold in the North may appear from the second half of December.
"There is still a possibility of dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind across the country," Ms. Tran Thi Chuc noted.
Hydrometeorological experts emphasized that storms, tropical depressions, cold air, and the southwest monsoon cause strong winds and large waves at sea and affect the activities of ships.
In particular, beware of heavy rains that can cause flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas. Heavy rains, thunderstorms, tornadoes and lightning can negatively affect production activities and public health.

In the context of climate change, weather and climate are becoming increasingly complex with many dangerous and extreme forms such as heavy rain in a short period of time, flash floods, landslides, etc.
Therefore, the government, people and relevant units need to regularly update and integrate hydrometeorological forecast and warning information in short-term 1-3 day bulletins at https://www.nchmf.gov.vn/kttv/ of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting to promptly adjust production plans, appropriate response plans, especially appropriate reservoir operation plans, ensuring safety of works and downstream areas and ensuring safety for production activities and people's lives.../.
