Expected insurance payment of over 10 billion VND

Regarding insurance payments after the mini apartment fire on Khuong Ha Street (Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi), the Department of Insurance Management and Supervision ( Ministry of Finance ) has just informed that as of September 19, 2023, 10 insurance companies have insured customers who suffered human losses in the mini apartment fire on Khuong Ha Street, Hanoi. The estimated insurance payment amount is about 10.3 billion VND.

Of which, life insurance paid about 9.8 billion VND (AIA: 4.3 billion VND, Manulife: 4.8 billion VND, Chubb Life: 200 million VND, Generali: 496 million VND); non-life insurance was mainly student insurance (Bao Viet Insurance: 80 million VND, Bao Minh: 100 million VND, PVI: 105 million VND, PJICO: 78 million VND, MIC: 140 million VND, VBI: 15 million VND).

Currently, insurance companies have paid insurance money with a total amount of 4.38 billion VND, other cases are completing insurance compensation procedures and paying insurance money.

A representative of the Insurance Management and Supervision Department said that according to reports from insurance companies, in some cases the whole family died so the beneficiaries could not be identified, and in some cases the families requested to wait until after the funeral procedures were completed.

In addition, insurance companies face difficulties because they have not been able to look up official and complete information about the list of victims (deaths, hospitalizations) to compare comprehensively with the list of customers at the insurance company, thereby providing timely support to customers.

To quickly carry out insurance compensation procedures and pay insurance money, the Vietnam Insurance Association asked local government representatives to discuss with the victims and also inform families participating in insurance contracts to contact insurance companies or the Vietnam Insurance Association to resolve insurance benefits.

The Department of Insurance Management and Supervision said it is continuing to urge, monitor, and compile reports to update the settlement of insurance benefits of insurance companies and through the report of the Insurance Association; ensuring the settlement of insurance benefits quickly and promptly in accordance with the agreement in the insurance contract and legal regulations.
