On the afternoon of May 26, Children's Hospital 2 announced that it had just received a rare accident case. That was a child named Đ.TM - 8 years old, living in Phan Thiet, Binh Thuan - who was swept up by a rolling door when he was hanging on the door.

According to family members, at around 8:00 p.m. on May 22, the baby's mother was taking care of her younger sibling at home when M. was playing with her 10-year-old sister. The mother asked her sister to go get milk for the baby at a place not far from home.

When opening the rolling door to ride the electric bike out, baby M. suddenly hung onto the rolling door - an action he often performed despite being reminded by his family beforehand.

Just 2 minutes later, when the older sister returned, she discovered that baby M. was completely wrapped up in the door. She ran to call her mother.

The whole family panicked and tried to find a way to get the baby down. After about 10 minutes, baby M. was freed. At this time, the baby could not speak, his hands and feet were purple, his heart and breathing stopped, and his family took him to An Phuoc General Hospital - Phan Thiet in a coma.

Here, doctors resuscitated, intubated and urgently transferred the baby at night to Children's Hospital 2 for further intensive treatment.

At 2:00 a.m. on May 24, the child was admitted to the intensive care unit - Children's Hospital 2 in a lethargic state, with unstable consciousness and many injuries to the head, face, chest and abdomen.

After assessing the risk of brain damage due to lack of oxygen, doctors decided to perform active hypothermia, which helps protect the brain during the critical stage.

After 4 days of intensive treatment, on May 26, baby M. was successfully removed from the ventilator, was alert, and could accurately answer his name and follow the doctor's orders.

According to doctors, this is a welcome sign of recovery after a serious accident.

Never let children play near the rolling door, especially when the door is operating.

MSc. Dr. Tran Thi Bich Kim - Deputy Head of the Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department, Children's Hospital 2 - said this was a preventable accident if families were more careful in choosing and using rolling doors, andeducating children about the risks of playing near this device.

Regarding rolling door equipment, doctors recommend prioritizing the type with safety sensors or reverse function when encountering obstacles, placing the control button in a high position, out of reach of children, and equipping it with an emergency shut-off button for quick handling in case of problems.

Parents should never let children play near rolling doors, especially when the doors are in operation. In addition, children should be taught that rolling doors are not toys and should not be allowed to climb or hang on the doors.

In the event of an accident, proper first aid and taking the child to a medical facility promptly are extremely important, helping to increase the child's chances of survival and recovery.
