Doan Ngoc Tan broke his ribs and missed the Vietnam team again.

Midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan of Thanh Hoa Club cannot join the upcoming Vietnam national team due to a broken rib in the match of round 3 of V-League 2025-2026.

Doan Ngoc Tan had to leave the field in the 54th minute after a strong collision in the match where Thanh Hoa Club lost to host Hong Linh Ha Tinh 0-1 in round 3 of V-League 2025-2026 on the evening of August 27.

Doan Ngoc Tan was still in pain and was taken to Ha Tinh Hospital for an MRI scan by Thanh Hoa Club's medical department to determine the specific injury.

The doctors determined that he had three broken ribs and had difficulty breathing due to lung damage, forcing him to undergo surgery on the evening of August 27. According to the doctors' diagnosis, the 31-year-old midfielder must rest for at least 2-3 months before he can return to training and competition.

This is bad news for Doan Ngoc Tan personally and Thanh Hoa Club. Because he is the captain and an important player, while the team is facing difficulties.

Thanh Hoa Club is currently at the bottom of the V-League 2025-2026 table, having only earned 1 point after the first three matches led by coach Choi Won Kwon.

With this injury, Doan Ngoc Tan will not be able to join the Vietnam national team on August 29 in Hanoi.

This is a training session to help coach Kim Sang Sik review, check and evaluate the squad to prepare for the next matches in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup. The Vietnamese team will have 2 practice matches with Hanoi Police Club (September 4) and Nam Dinh (September 7) to review the squad.

The midfield of the Vietnamese team currently has Hoang Duc, Duc Chien, Vo Hoang Minh Khoa and new player Ly Cong Hoang Anh under coach Kim Sang Sik.

Doan Ngoc Tan is a new discovery of coach Kim Sang Sik in the Vietnam team in the journey to win the ASEAN Cup 2024. He plays well in the midfield, helping Hoang Duc comfortably launch attacks.

Doan Ngoc Tan was born in 1994, joined Thanh Hoa Club from the 2021 season, and has been the captain since coach Velizar Popov. He first joined the Vietnam national team at the end of 2024, was trusted by coach Kim Sang Sik and given a starting position in the ASEAN Cup, and made great contributions to helping the team win the championship.

This is the second time this year that Tan has suffered a serious injury and had to take a long break from competition. Previously, he had a broken fibula and had to take a break from competition since round 17 of the 2024-2025 V-League, and could not join the Vietnam national team in the 0-4 loss to Malaysia in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup in June this year.

Tan will return to play in the 2025-2026 season. This is bad news for Thanh Hoa and the Vietnamese team because Ngoc Tan is a very important defensive midfielder.
