Year-end travel: Many attractive options available.

The end of the year, Christmas and New Year's Day 2026, presents an opportunity to boost both domestic and international tourism markets. This year, despite the relatively short holiday period, the demand for travel has increased significantly, with a trend towards short-day tours, shorter distances, and flexible itineraries. In response to this demand, many localities and businesses have launched a series of attractive promotional products and programs, contributing to a more vibrant year-end tourism market.

Short-day tours are becoming popular.

To celebrate her children's winter break, Ms. Hoang Huong Tra (Hai Ba Trung Ward, Hanoi) has planned a family trip to Cao Bang province at the end of December. "Every year, my children's school gives them a winter break, so I often schedule trips for the whole family. Even though it's a short break, it's a time for the family to relax and spend quality time together," Ms. Hoang Huong Tra shared.

According to observations, the end of the year, along with the New Year's Day and Christmas holidays, and the winter break offered by many private schools, has made the tourism market more vibrant. Nguyen Cong Hoan, General Director of Flamingo Redtours, said that many families are taking advantage of their children's winter break to organize tours lasting 1-3 days within a 200km radius of Hanoi, such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai), Moc Chau (Son La), Phu Tho, Ninh Binh, Ha Long (Quang Ninh), Hai Phong, Cao Bang, etc. Among these, tours exploring the Northeast and Northwest regions are particularly popular. Meanwhile, according to Bui Thanh Tu, Marketing Director of BestPrice Tourism Technology Joint Stock Company, with the New Year's Day holiday lasting only one day, most Hanoi tourists prioritize nearby destinations within the capital, mainly Ba Vi, Son Tay, and Soc Son for relaxation.

To meet the needs of tourists, many provinces and cities have developed attractive promotional programs and events. Quang Ninh province launched a cooperation program to stimulate tourism "Quang Ninh - Experiencing Heritage, Connecting the World," attracting more than 100 businesses offering preferential packages for accommodation, services, and gifts; and maintaining fireworks displays on weekends. Thai Nguyen province organized the "Thai Nguyen Festival - Fragrance and Beauty of Famous Tea 2025" from December 19 to 21 to promote the image of Thai Nguyen to a large number of domestic and international tourists…

In Hanoi, numerous year-end cultural and tourism events are contributing to enhanced experiences for visitors. According to Nguyen Tien Dat, Vice President of the Hanoi Tourism Association, the capital's tourism industry has collaborated with many localities to launch two new routes called "Exploring the Southern Thang Long Heritage Route," offering visitors experiences of traditional crafts, heritage sites, ecology, and new rural areas. Meanwhile, according to Dang Huong Giang, Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, many year-end tourism activities such as the Hanoi Culinary Culture Festival and the "Hanoi Beautiful Sound" 2025 night tourism promotion series from December 19th to 21st will also be highlights to attract tourists to Hanoi during the year-end period.

Vigorous year-end sales promotion

Data from Booking.com shows that international travelers search for Vietnam more frequently during the year-end holiday season. Besides Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, destinations such as Phu Quoc (An Giang), Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), Hoi An (Da Nang), and Sa Pa (Lao Cai) lead in terms of interest from both domestic and international tourists. Currently, many businesses are launching major promotions to stimulate demand during this peak season.

According to Nguyen Thi Van, General Director of Hanoitourist Corporation, the company is offering a 10-15% discount on tours departing during Tet (Lunar New Year). Nguyen Van Tai, Director of Vietsense Travel, stated that the company is implementing various programs to show appreciation to returning customers, offering group discounts and gifts for early registrants. Pham Van Bay, Deputy Director of Vietravel's Hanoi branch, reported that their multi-country tours, such as the Central Highlands - Da Lat, Central Vietnam - following the Truong Son trail, and the Mekong Delta - Phu Quoc, are priced affordably starting from 7.19 million VND. Sun Group is launching a series of combo deals with discounts up to 50% and developing nighttime entertainment products in various localities to enhance customer experiences...

Besides domestic tours, nearby overseas tours are also popular choices for tourists at the end of the year, especially during the New Year holiday. Short-day tours to China and Thailand, with reasonable costs, convenient flight routes, and many experiential services, are favored by tourists. In addition to tours by air to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket (Thailand); Fenghuang Ancient Town, Jiuzhaigou or the Shanghai - Suzhou - Hangzhou route (China), which are popular choices, tours by land exploring Dongxing, Nanning, Hekou - Kunming, priced at 5-6 million VND per person, are also popular options.

On December 15th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a ceremony to welcome the 20 millionth international visitor in Phu Quoc (An Giang). This is the first time in 65 years of its formation and development that Vietnam's tourism industry has reached this milestone, marking a new step in the process of recovery and deep integration into the global tourism market. Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong expressed that the event of welcoming the 20 millionth visitor in the last month of the year demonstrates the timely decisions of the Government and the efforts of the entire tourism industry. This number will be a leverage for Vietnamese tourism to continue to create even greater momentum in the coming year.
