The world's leading online travel application Booking.com has just released a list of the 10 most hospitable cities in Vietnam in 2025 and the ancient town of Hoi An has topped the list for the second consecutive year.
Besides, in the top 5 most hospitable regions in Vietnam , Quang Nam is also ranked 3rd. Going back in time, in 2022, Hoi An was even voted by tourists in the top 10 most hospitable cities in the world within the framework of Booking.com's Traveler Review Awards.
According to Booking.com, to be eligible for the ranking, a destination needs to have at least 50 eligible properties. The ranking is calculated based on the ratio of the winning properties to the total number of properties in the locality.
While on a regional scale, each region needs to have a minimum of 200 eligible accommodation establishments. The ranking is determined based on the percentage of establishments receiving the award compared to the total number of establishments in the region.
As travel demand increasingly shifts towards authentic, personal experiences and local connections, hospitality continues to play a pivotal role in creating a memorable journey.
But it was not until tourism developed strongly that the hospitality of Quang Nam people was spread. Recently, on SCMP (an English newspaper based in Hong Kong), Simon O'Reilly (British) shared his unforgettable experiences when traveling to Vietnam in 1994.
In it, Simon mentioned the memory of choosing to experience traveling by motorbike with a friend to a coastal village in the south of Da Nang City. After that, their motorbike suddenly ran out of gas in the village. After a few minutes of discussion despite the language barrier, the villagers brought gas, water and snacks to support and resolutely refused to accept Simon's money.
It is from those simple, rustic behaviors that are quietly continued every day in the life of Quang Nam that have contributed to attracting and leading many other tourists to visit and explore this land.
Hospitality here can come from enthusiastically guiding visitors' questions, maintaining a friendly attitude towards visitors even if they do not buy from you, or simply a friendly smile when meeting visitors passing through the village.
In recent years, Hoi An - the province's tourist center - has also been actively encouraging the community to join hands in spreading hospitality with the message "Each citizen is a tourist companion" as well as promoting the project "Hoi An - pure and kind people".
According to Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Thai Binh, cultural traditions and hospitality are very important in tourism development.
“There are tourists who come to Quang Nam who may not remember Quang Nam tourism products but are left with a strong impression of Quang Nam people and the lifestyle of Quang Nam communities. It is necessary to continue to promote this advantage, especially in Hoi An to promote the building of business culture as well as the friendly and kind people, contributing to the development of sustainable tourism,” said Mr. Phan Thai Binh.
