Thanh Hoa tourism takes off when the North-South expressway opens

The North-South Expressway has been completed and put into use, shortening the travel time from Hanoi to Thanh Hoa to only 2 hours. This is also an advantage that helps Thanh Hoa welcome many tourists.

According to statistics from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province, in 2023, there will be about more than 12 million visitors coming to travel and visit, an increase of 12.5% compared to 2022, reaching 103.5% of the 2023 plan. Of which, international tourists are estimated to reach: 615,200 visitors, an increase of 2.4 times compared to 2022, reaching 100% of the 2023 plan.

Total tourism revenue is estimated at VND 24,500 billion, up 22.1% compared to 2022, reaching 101.2% of the 2023 plan, total revenue from international tourists is estimated at: 257,430,000 USD, up 3.6 times compared to 2022, reaching 109.2% of the 2023 plan.

During the April 30-May 1 holiday, the Mai Son - National Highway 45 was inaugurated and put into operation, attracting many tourists. Statistics show that during this time, Thanh Hoa is the locality that welcomes the most tourists in the country with 1.2 million visitors, with estimated revenue of VND 2,860 billion.

In 2023, the number of international tourists to Vietnam in general and Thanh Hoa in particular will increase due to the Government's open visa policy, making it easier for international tourists to come to Vietnam.

In particular, China's reopening for tourism has created a sudden increase in the Chinese tourist market to Thanh Hoa (accounting for nearly 30%) of the total number of international visitors to Thanh Hoa.

Thanh Hoa is known as a land of "spiritual land and talented people" with many historical relics, famous landscapes and scenic spots.

Currently, according to surveys and assessments, Pu Luong Tourist Area in Ba Thuoc is the most attractive destination for international tourists in the province.

In addition, industrial parks and high-tech zones have been welcoming international business tourists (tourism combined with attending conferences, seminars, finding partners...).

To achieve the above results, there are many factors, including new tourism products put into operation such as: Sea Square, water music, walking street, night market, street art performances; Me Island tour, off-road games without steering wheel, F1 racetrack, grass sliding, paintball; tour to Ne Island, paragliding...

Sam Son Beach is a famous tourist area in Thanh Hoa visited by many tourists.

In addition, Thanh Hoa has carried out many tourism promotion, advertising and stimulus campaigns, linking with major provinces and cities to connect and bring visitors to Thanh Hoa such as: Participating in international tourism fairs; Coordinating with Ninh Binh, Nghe An, Ha Tinh to organize a conference to promote and advertise tourism "One journey - Four localities - Many experiences" in Hanoi 2023; Ceremony to announce the tourist route connecting the districts: Yen Dinh - Cam Thuy - Vinh Loc - Tho Xuan...

The most special thing is that in 2023, the opening of the North-South expressway through Thanh Hoa has shortened the travel time from the northern provinces, people and tourists from Hanoi to Thanh Hoa to 2 hours - this is the customer market that accounts for a large share of domestic visitors to Thanh Hoa (accounting for over 65%).

New tourism product (water music) will be put into operation in 2023 at Sam Son Sea Square.

On the other hand, the North-South expressway is of great significance in stimulating tourism to the western and southwestern districts of Thanh Hoa province, contributing to facilitating the connection between points in the province, and extending the length of stay of tourists in Thanh Hoa.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet, Head of Tourism Management Department (Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province) emphasized: With this infrastructure advantage, the industry will promote tourism investment, form new tourist destinations with advantages in resources of rivers, lakes, hills, mountains, primeval forests, forming high-class eco-resort tourism products and services.

This will create a counterbalance to the marine tourism product - which is the province's strength; contribute to realizing Thanh Hoa tourism - "Four seasons of fragrance" and the province's spearhead economic sector.

Synchronized traffic, breakthrough tourism

The North-South expressway connecting Hanoi to Can Tho is one of the important vertical traffic axes of the country. Together with the Ho Chi Minh route and National Highway 1, the coastal road, the expressway will meet the increasing transportation demand between the North and South in general and Thanh Hoa province in particular.

The North-South Expressway will connect with the local road network through interchanges to form a complete traffic network.

Mr. Mai Xuan Liem, Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, said that the completed expressway has great significance and role in promoting socio-economic development and ensuring local security and defense in all aspects.

Together with the local road network, this will be a thoroughfare connecting districts, economic regions, and tourist regions of the province; promoting socio-economic trade of districts and Thanh Hoa province with regions across the country.

The Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee pointed out that the North-South Expressway has met the travel needs of people, contributing to reducing traffic on National Highway 1 and local roads; Connecting with the local road network through intersections with routes QL217B, QL217, QL47, QL45, Nghi Son - Bai Tranh, forming a complete traffic network.

Currently, Thanh Hoa province has many famous tourist attractions that attract foreign visitors such as Sam Son beach, the World Cultural Heritage of Ho Dynasty Citadel, Lam Kinh historical relic site...

With its geographical position, advantages, and clear identification of the province's advantages, in addition to the current connecting routes, Thanh Hoa province is researching the construction of new routes to more conveniently connect the highway with Ben En tourist area and Am Tien spiritual area.

Along with Tho Xuan becoming an international airport, the expressway axis will be an external road traffic axis to connect Thanh Hoa tourist destinations with tourist destinations of neighboring provinces such as the world cultural and natural heritage sites of Trang An, Bai Dinh, Cua Lo and other provinces in the country as well as countries around the world.
