Use personal identification number instead of tax code from July 1, 2025

According to a source from the Tax Department of Region XIII, from July 1, 2025, personal identification numbers will officially be used to replace tax codes for households, business households, business individuals, individuals with taxable income and dependents, according to the provisions of Clause 7, Article 35 of the Law on Tax Administration and Circular 86/2024/TT-BTC of the Ministry of Finance. This is to synchronize tax data with the National Population Database according to Project 06 of the Prime Minister.

In case the taxpayer already has a tax code and the tax registration information matches the population data, the system will automatically convert to a personal identification number, without having to perform the procedure again. However, if the information does not match or is incomplete, the tax code will be transferred to the "pending update" status, the taxpayer needs to contact the tax authority for adjustment.

In addition, if an individual has more than one tax code, it is necessary to update the personal identification number for all of them so that the tax authority can consolidate data. Previously issued invoices and documents are still legally valid.

Taxpayers can look up information at www.gdt.gov.vn, thuedientu.gdt.gov.vn or the eTaxMobile and iCanhan applications. The Tax Department of Region XIII recommends that households and individuals check and update information early to avoid interruption of tax obligations after July 1, 2025.
