Working with units on preparations for the 2025 Tet peak in Tan Son Nhat area, Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Uong Viet Dung, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, noted the option of using buses as the main means of transportation to avoid congestion.
On January 16, Mr. Uong Viet Dung, Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, worked with units on preparations for the 2025 Tet peak of the aviation industry in the Tan Son Nhat area, Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Dung assessed that this year, the number of flights increased to a record level, while the infrastructure has not changed much. Tan Son Nhat Airport is located in the city center, so careful preparation and solutions are needed to avoid being passive and serve the people best.
Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Uong Viet Dung spoke at the meeting.
Ready to serve people during Tet peak season
At the meeting, Mr. Tran Doan Mau, Director of the Southern Airports Authority, said that in order to prepare for serving passengers during the Tet peak period, the Airport Authority and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and related units have recently met to deploy a plan to resolve traffic congestion inside and outside the airport.
This year, there was a situation where taxis could not enter the airport to pick up passengers during rush hour due to traffic jams, leading to a shortage of vehicles and long waiting times for passengers.
During peak Tet service time, Tan Son Nhat airport is expected to have about 1,000 flights arriving and departing each day.
Mr. Mau said that it is necessary to consider a plan to free people on the ground. This is very important, if there is congestion at the airport, it will lead to flight delays and cancellations.
Mr. Tran Doan Mau, Director of the Southern Airports Authority, said that the difficulty of taxis and motorbike taxis entering the airport to pick up passengers will be one of the difficulties in serving passengers during Tet.
A representative of Tan Son Nhat International Airport assessed that for many years now, solutions to serve people during Tet have been implemented and have had good results. During this time, the number of flights is large, so ensuring flights are on time is very important, avoiding planes having to wait in the air and congestion on the ground.
Units such as Saigon Ground Services Joint Stock Company (SAGS), Vietnam Airport Ground Services Company (VIAS) and some airlines such as Vietnam Airlines , Vietjetair said that they are ready in terms of human resources, equipment, technology... to serve the people.
Traffic congestion on Truong Son, Bach Dang, Tran Quoc Hoang, Cong Hoa streets... makes it difficult for taxis and motorbike taxis to enter the airport to pick up passengers, leading to chain congestion inside the airport.
Use the bus to take passengers to the transfer station
Mr. Uong Viet Dung acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts, attempts and careful preparation of the civil aviation industry, as well as related units to serve the people during the peak period of Lunar New Year 2025. The careful preparation demonstrated the sense of responsibility and high sense of service of the units.
However, this is also a time when the aviation industry is facing great pressure, just a small incident can lead to dissatisfaction from the people, affecting the efforts of the whole team. Therefore, the units need to continue to try, not to let any passenger be without service or without means of transportation to return home.
Mr. Uong Viet Dung said that the congestion at the airport during peak days will affect the quality of service. In many cases, taxis and motorbike taxis refuse to travel short distances, making the congestion worse.
Mr. Ngo Hai Duong, Head of the Department of Road Traffic Infrastructure Management (HCMC Department of Transport) said that the airport has 3 bus routes, of which routes 103 and 152 can connect passengers to the city center, but very few passengers use them.
The reason is that the bus parking location is not convenient and the propaganda and guidance work is still limited. The Department will coordinate with units to propagate people to use buses more.
He noted the option of using buses as the main means of transportation. Buses will take passengers from the station to outside transfer points, where they can easily catch a taxi, motorbike taxi or a relative to pick them up.
This method not only helps reduce traffic pressure in the airport area, but also creates convenience and saves travel time for passengers.
Transit bus stops will be located in convenient areas, flexibly connecting to main routes, making it easy for passengers to continue their journey.
Currently, there are 3 bus routes from Tan Son Nhat airport connecting outside but very few passengers use them.
Mr. Dung proposed two locations next to the airport, suitable for connection: Pho Quang bus station (Pho Quang street, Tan Binh district) and Gia Dinh park. The buses must have identification badges, be given priority to quickly take passengers outside, and resolve congestion at the airport.
"This will be the most effective solution to reduce pressure inside the airport during peak days," Mr. Dung emphasized.
The Director of the Civil Aviation Authority requested airlines to be ready to add more aircraft and increase flights to meet the high demand for travel. Prepare carefully in terms of human resources, equipment, and close coordination between units to best handle the situation.
Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam wishes a happy new year to the staff and employees of Vietnam Airports Corporation.
Previously, Mr. Uong Viet Dung visited and wished a happy new year to a number of units such as Vietnam Airports Corporation - JSC (ACV), Saigon Ground Services Joint Stock Company (SAGS), Vietnam Airport Ground Services Company (VIAGS), Southern Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), airlines Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, Vietjetair, Travel Airlines, Vietravel Airlines...
Here, the Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam sent New Year greetings to all leaders, officers, employees and workers of the units.
At the same time, he expects the units to continue to invest in development, upgrade machinery and equipment, and train more professional staff. In particular, building a united team, raising the sense of responsibility, promoting a professional service culture so that the aviation industry can develop and gain the trust of customers.
