Sa Pa is the only Vietnamese representative in the top 16 most beautiful small towns in the world.
Visiting small towns or rural areas of a country is considered the perfect way to have a new holiday. The British magazine Time Out recently suggested 16 postcard-perfect towns that will make you want to not only see them but also have the opportunity to visit and experience things that are not usually seen in big cities.
Among the 16 selected towns, Sa Pa is the only representative of Vietnam to participate, "standing shoulder to shoulder" with world-famous towns such as Grindelwald (Switzerland), Alberobello (Italy) or Esperanza (Australia).
Endless terraced fields in Sa Pa
Author Jayne Trainor - British-Australian travel writer has guided tourists to Sa Pa by train or bus. The town is located between green mountains, immersed in a deep valley with endless terraced fields. The road here is steep but surrounded by beautiful scenery, making the journey of discovery of each tourist somewhat more poetic and attractive. Coming to the town, tourists should definitely visit the markets to find unique ingredients and try Sa Pa's typical food because of its extremely delicious taste. The most interesting thing is that the town is surrounded by small villages inhabited by ethnic minority communities, bringing many interesting indigenous cultural experiences to tourists.
Standing in front of the majestic nature here, looking down at the beautiful Muong Hoa valley and looking out at the majestic Hoang Lien Son range amidst the sea of clouds rolling down like a waterfall, visitors will feel like they are "floating in the ninth cloud".
Visitors can take the cable car to the top of Fansipan to see the whole town.
If you want to see the whole town and the mountains from above, visitors have an interesting means of transport: the Guinness World Record cable car and the Muong Hoa mountain train to reach the top of Fansipan. Sitting in the cable car cabin to the top of the mountain, visitors have the opportunity to admire the deep green forest that lights up each season with colorful flowers and leaves, especially the rhododendron flowers typical of the Northwest mountains and forests from April.
From this time, the first rhododendrons of the season are gradually blooming from the dry branches growing precariously on the cliffs, weaving into beautiful colorful flower carpets. At the top, visitors can also walk on the flower paths filled with rhododendrons leading to spiritual works with ancient Vietnamese pagoda architecture from the 15th - 16th centuries hidden in the clouds, completing the experience of worshiping at the sacred peak.
Village Sweeping Festival in Ban May
During the journey to visit Fansipan peak, visitors can experience the cultural colors of the ethnic minorities in the highlands. In the Northwest cultural space called Ban May, which is built like a small village at the foot of the mountain, the H'Mong, Giay, Tay, Dao, Xa Pho ethnic people in colorful brocade costumes will directly perform the Khen dance or vibrant Sap dance to introduce the unique indigenous culture to visitors. They also recreate their unique traditional festivals such as the Gau Tao Festival, Sweeping the Village, Röong Poọc, Long Tong, Put Tong, so that visitors can experience the Northwest in the most complete and vivid way.
Hotel de la Coupole – MGallery bears the mark of French culture and Northwest characteristics
For a choice of accommodation in Sa Pa, visitors can look to Hotel de la Coupole - MGallery - a French-style palace that reflects the golden past beauty of Sa Pa in the 1920s. The 5-star luxury hotel designed by Bill Bensley right in the center of town, offers a splendid resort space, with French cultural imprints and typical Northwest culture subtly interwoven in every architectural and interior detail.
The majestic beauty of Fansipan peak
Immediately after Time Out announced the list, Argentina's Infobae newspaper cited it in its New Trends section. This is not the first time Sa Pa has been named in the international media. In early May 2023, American travel magazine CN Traveler voted Sa Pa into the list of 50 most beautiful towns in the world. In June 2023, the India Times introduced the terraced fields in Sa Pa as "bringing a spectacular and iconic scene" to tourism in the Northwest highlands.
Continuously appearing in the world media, with unique experiences and its own identity, Sa Pa is gradually affirming its position as an extremely attractive destination in the Northwest mountainous region of Vietnam for tourists.
