A wide-open road to escaping poverty.

Developing transportation infrastructure is considered the "key" to socio-economic development. Besides the attention and investment from the State, ethnic minority communities in the province are willing to donate land and relocate their assets to create wide, open roads, leading them out of poverty and towards a more prosperous future.

Donating land for one's own benefit.

In the final days of 2025, along with the enthusiastic spirit of labor and production, the people of Phu Luong commune eagerly welcomed a new joy as many inter-village and intra-field roads were opened and put into use.

Rural roads in Phu Luong commune have been invested in, making travel more convenient for the local people.
Rural roads in Phu Luong commune have been invested in, making travel more convenient for the local people.

In Lang Nhieu village, Phu Luong commune, with 171 households, the spirit of voluntarily donating land for road construction is spreading strongly. Comrade Ninh Van Le, Party Secretary and Head of Lang Nhieu village, happily stated: To expand the DH-10 road from the DT-186 road to Quang Yen commune, Vinh Phuc province, with a total length of 3.5 km passing through Gia Cat and Lang Nhieu villages, the people have not hesitated to share their most valuable assets. More than 128 households have donated over 9,602 m2 of land; demolished 1,875 m2 of fences, 60 gate posts, 335 m2 of roofing, and 261 trees of various kinds. The total value of the land and assets on the land donated by the people for the expansion of the DH-10 road is estimated at approximately 4.5 billion VND. Even more commendable, over 80% of these households are Cao Lan ethnic minority people. Ms. Hoang Thi Nghia's family is one of the households that donated the most land in Lang Nhieu village, with 350 square meters of residential and agricultural land. She also demolished more than 20 meters of steel fence and two solid gate pillars to clear the land.

For example, the family of Ms. Hau Thi Thuan, although a poor household in Lang Nhieu village, voluntarily donated over 240 square meters of land for road construction. Ms. Thuan shared: "Even though my family is poor, I think I have a responsibility to the villagers. The road is being built for the villagers to use, so donating land benefits my own family, the villagers, and the people in the commune. Therefore, my family voluntarily donated over 240 square meters of land to make the road accessible and the village beautiful."

United in donating land

Riding us on his motorbike along the wide concrete road from the commune center to Phuc Loi village, Son Duong commune, Comrade Dinh Trong Tan, Party Secretary and Head of Phuc Loi village, happily said: “In other places, donating land for roads is very difficult, requiring going to each household to persuade them to clear the land, but in Phuc Loi it was very easy. Through just two village meetings, 100% of the villagers voluntarily donated land and agreed to participate. Perhaps the new road was the aspiration of all the villagers, so land clearance became much easier.”

Pointing to the garden in front of his house, where a portion had been donated for the road, Mr. Dinh Trung Hai from Phuc Loi village shared: “Every penny counts, every effort counts, so seeing the area of crops almost ready for harvest, many fruit trees that we worked so hard to cultivate, now being cut down to make way for the road, we feel very sad; but when we understand that sacrificing the small things to reap the big rewards means that while our family's economy will be affected to some extent in the short term, the economy of the entire village and commune will develop further thanks to the road, we all agree and believe that donating land is ultimately for our own benefit.”

From 2022 to the present, implementing the National Target Program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, the entire province has invested in 756 transportation infrastructure projects, with ethnic minority communities donating hundreds of thousands of square meters of land. Many ethnic minority households have become shining examples of donating land to open roads, demonstrating the people's consensus with the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State. These wide, open roads are leading the way out of poverty and contributing to the goal of building a sustainably developed Tuyen Quang province.
