To help users have a quality feed experience and support talented content creators to reach more audiences, Meta has just announced a series of strong measures to limit the sharing of spam content on Facebook.
Accordingly, Meta has improved the feed, giving talented content creators a chance to break through, starting with efforts to reduce spam content.
In the first half of the year alone, Facebook took action against about 500,000 accounts engaging in spam or fake engagement, taking measures such as limiting comments, reducing content distribution, and preventing these spam accounts from generating revenue.
The platform also removed about 10 million accounts impersonating major content producers.
However, the problem of spam content, from videos , images to posts, still appears frequently.
Not only does this affect the user experience, it also hinders passionate content creators from making an impression on the public.
Spam content is unoriginal content that is copied or reused multiple times without citing the source, asking for permission, or editing the content clearly and appropriately.
Measures to handle spam content
Accounts that frequently repost other people's content without adding value will see their overall post distribution reduced and may have their ability to generate revenue suspended.
For duplicate videos, the system will prioritize the delivery of the original and limit the display of copies.
Meta is also testing a feature that links users back to the original content, to increase transparency and protect the rights of authors.
Along with controls, the platform recommends creators adhere to a number of guidelines, such as: producing original content; adding clear commentary, dialogue, or creative elements if reusing content; limiting videos that are too short or lack a message; not including watermarks from other apps; and writing brief captions, not using all caps or inserting links.
Meta said it will roll out these changes over time, adding post-level insights and account distribution and revenue status to the Support section on Pages and professional profiles.
This move is considered to increase control over content quality and transparency in the distribution mechanism on Facebook.
