On the evening of January 31st ( Hanoi time), many users of social network X (formerly Twitter) posted about Facebook Messenger experiencing errors. These users reported that Facebook's messaging app was automatically retrieving messages from many years ago.
They couldn't scroll the chat to the most recent message, as it normally displays. Trying to reload the page or restart the browser didn't solve the problem either.

The aforementioned error appears on the web versions of Facebook and Messenger. Windows and Mac OS operating systems are also experiencing the same problem. Only users using the Messenger app on mobile devices or computers have reported not encountering this issue.
Besides the difficulties in messaging, this new Messenger bug also causes stuttering and lag, preventing users from performing actions or viewing content.
Meta (the company that owns Facebook) has not issued any statement regarding the aforementioned situation. On its status page, the social network still shows Messenger functioning normally, with no reported issues or overload.
According to DataReportal, as of mid-2023, there were 1.4 billion Messenger users globally. Of these, Vietnam accounted for approximately 57.7 million accounts.
Meta recently launched a default end-to-end encryption feature for chats on its platform. Users are required to set a password to decrypt their message history each time they log in or use the platform on a new device.
However, since the aforementioned update, Facebook's messaging app has been experiencing frequent errors. Recently, on December 17, 2023, many Messenger users reported encountering problems, being unable to load messages or images on the app for several hours.
