The number of users reporting Facebook errors increased dramatically at 10:20 p.m. on March 5 (Screenshot).
Don't believe Facebook is down
At around 10:20 p.m. on March 5, Facebook (Meta) users in Vietnam were suddenly logged out of the application. Subsequent login attempts were unsuccessful.
Not only in Vietnam, this incident is also happening globally. Information about Facebook crashing is shared by many people online.
Ms. Hoang Van (125 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Hanoi ) said that she thought her account had an error and entered the wrong password, so she struggled to report it more than ten times. "I was dealing with a customer so I was very anxious, I didn't believe that this global application had an error, only when I turned to read the news did I know that Facebook had crashed. The first thing I had to do was find another application to communicate for work," Ms. Van said.
Many people were worried that the influx of people using Zalo could cause congestion on the network, so they quickly created a backup chat group on Viber, downloaded Telegram and several other applications.
Meta's head of communications writes about the incident.
However, many people shared with Giao thong Newspaper reporters that they are still used to using Facebook's chat inbox feature because it connects to their personal Facebook pages with a large number of followers and friends. "I hope Facebook will soon fix this problem and not lose user information," said Tung Le (Hanoi).
Mr. Viet Hung, an IT staff at an agency in Hanoi, said that as soon as Facebook had a problem, his partners and all the staff at his workplace had to switch to group chat via Zalo and Telegram.
According to Mr. Mai Thanh Phu, a social network service expert, when the incident occurred, many customers thought they had lost their Facebook accounts and fanpages, so they called for help. Those who do online business or store many images on this platform were very confused.
In addition, Mr. Phu also received feedback from many people who consider Facebook as their main communication channel. This expert assessed that the incident occurred in a short time so it did not affect users too much. However, Facebook going down again will affect Meta's reputation.
"We know people are having trouble accessing our service. We're working on it right now," Meta's head of communications, Andy Stone, wrote on X. Minutes later (11:20 p.m.), the Facebook page in Vietnam was back up and running.
What do experts recommend?
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh - Director of SCS Network Security recommends: While the problem is being fixed by the supplier, users should wait for an official announcement from Meta, avoid following unauthenticated troubleshooting instructions online to avoid falling into scam traps and losing their accounts.
Mr. Tuan Anh believes that Facebook (Meta) or Instagram, Tiktok services... are currently the business platforms of many individuals and organizations. To avoid major impacts, users should diversify information channels, at least ensuring backup in case of problems on a certain channel.
When asked about the predicted cause of Facebook's incident tonight, Mr. Tuan Anh shared that a service interruption could be due to an administrative error, or a cyber attack... We need to wait for confirmation and notification from the supplier. The important thing is that users need to be prepared and have a plan to use another backup platform.
Many times the problem occurs
According to social network health monitoring site Downdetector, more than 100,000 users worldwide have reported errors on the Facebook social network platform.
Many users reported that this issue occurred on both the Facebook platform and the Messenger messaging app. The issue appeared on both the web and mobile platforms.
Previously, Facebook had many problems, typically the crash on May 9, 2017, Facebook had problems with data download interruptions on a large scale (including Vietnam), many related services such as Facebook Messenger could not be accessed stably.
"Sorry, something went wrong" is the message users receive when trying to access a Facebook page. Below is a promise from Facebook to try to fix the problem as soon as possible.
This issue affects both users accessing Facebook on a web browser on a computer, or the Facebook app on a mobile device.
