Accordingly, many users in Vietnam said that when opening the Facebook application on their phone or opening Facebook on their computer, Facebook suddenly informed them that they had logged out of their account. Many users tried to log in again, but Facebook reported an error saying that their name and password were incorrect. Many users said that they had entered the correct name and password, but Facebook still "did not allow" them to log in.
Many users were worried that they had entered the wrong password, so they clicked on the password recovery feature. However, when they clicked on it and followed Facebook's requests to change their password, Facebook continued to report an error, causing many users to panic.
Many users were extremely worried and shared information on other communication applications such as Zalo, Telegram, ... about this incident. Many people said they thought their Facebook accounts were hacked so they tried every way to log in but were completely "helpless".
Mr. Le Thanh Phuong (residing in Thu Duc City) said that while discussing work with colleagues, he suddenly could not access the conversation on Messenger, making him extremely confused.
"Currently, my colleagues also responded that they cannot access Messenger, including Facebook. We switched to using Zalo to communicate," said Mr. Phuong.
Unlike previous errors, users this time, even though they deleted the application and then downloaded it, could not access it as usual.
On the website Downdetector, which specializes in statistics on errors of social networking applications, it was recorded that over the past 30 years, more than 200,000 people worldwide have reported this Facebook error.
Users not only in Vietnam but globally have reported problems logging in and accessing their Facebook accounts, as well as encountering similar errors with other services including Instagram and WhatsApp.
According to the Anti-Fraud Team, it could be due to a technical issue. Thousands of users reported problems accessing social media services. Outages are increasing globally, as tracked by the website DownDetector.com.
Many users reported being logged out with no option to log back in. The login issues apply to both apps and websites. Users reported problems resetting passwords and using two-factor authentication to log in.
Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Threads and Messenger are all operated by parent company Meta. They all appear to be experiencing the same issue. Meta has not provided a timeline for when full services will be back online. The outage has caused concern for businesses that rely on Facebook for marketing, highlighting the platform's crucial role in global communications. Users have turned to other social networks to express their frustration and seek updates, with #FacebookDown trending.
"Users should not believe in unverified news on social networks to avoid being scammed out of money or information. Some scammers also lure victims into depositing money into Facebook recovery services. This is an opportunity for scammers to fabricate stories to exploit victims' psychology to scam, take over accounts, passwords, information... users should stay calm, do not believe anyone spreading false rumors, or fake Facebook services, or you will lose everything," the representative of the Anti-Fraud group advised.
By 11:20 p.m., Facebook had fixed the inaccessibility issue.
Meta, Facebook's parent company, has yet to comment on the incident.
