Salt festivals, stories and generations of experiences about salt making deeply reflect the spirit and identity of this land. In particular, salt making in Bac Lieu has been certified as a "National Intangible Cultural Heritage". Mr. Luu Hoang Ly - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Lieu province affirmed that the Festival aims to honor, preserve and develop the traditional salt making profession; enhance the value of the Vietnamese salt making profession in general and Bac Lieu province in particular.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu said that this event, in addition to honoring the Vietnamese salt industry in general and Bac Lieu province in particular, also aims to preserve the profession, help salt farmers live from salt and prosper from salt.
"The salt industry is a very arduous and difficult profession, but the value it brings to salt workers during the past time has been extremely difficult," said Mr. Thieu, adding that how can people understand the saying "salt is salty, but after this event it will become sweet love, sweet meaning, sweet human affection of Bac Lieu".
