Matt Fitzpatrick, the 31-year-old English golfer, defeated Scottie Scheffler after a thrilling playoff to win the RBC Heritage Championship in South Carolina, in a match decided by the final putts.
Entering the final with a three-stroke lead, Fitzpatrick aimed to repeat his victory at the Valspar Championship in March. The former US Open champion maintained consistency throughout the first 17 holes and made no significant mistakes. However, Scheffler narrowed the gap to one stroke as both players teed off on the par-4 18th hole.
Drama erupted on the final hole when Fitzpatrick bogeyed after a faulty chip shot, even though par would have been enough to seal the victory in the 72-hole regular time. Neither player managed to get the ball onto the green after two attempts, but Scheffler successfully saved par to tie the score at -18, forcing the match into a playoff.

Here, Fitzpatrick quickly regained his composure. He executed a precise approach shot before calmly scoring the decisive birdie, securing the victory.
Fitzpatrick won the RBC Heritage in 2023, defeating Jordan Spieth in a playoff. With this victory, he became the first non-American golfer to win the tournament twice and the 11th in history to achieve this feat.
"The way I won today was really special," Fitzpatrick shared. "The 18th hole was completely different today compared to the previous three rounds. I think the playoff would also be very difficult to decide the winner because it's an extremely challenging hole."

This is Fitzpatrick's second PGA Tour title in just one month after the Valspar Championship, bringing his total professional titles to four, along with a prize money of $3.6 million. Prior to this, he also finished second at The Players Championship.
“That means a lot to me,” Fitzpatrick added. “I used to come here on holiday with my family when I was a child, and I always dreamed of winning this tournament. Winning here twice is unbelievable. Beating Scottie on the 73rd hole is a moment I will never forget.”
Meanwhile, Scheffler, 29, continued his quest for the title, finishing second for the second consecutive time, following his loss to Rory McIlroy at The Masters last week. South Korean golfer Si Woo Kim finished third with a total score of -16 after a final round of 68 strokes, two strokes behind the leading pair.
