According to SK Telecom's announcement, the company plans to cooperate with Anthropic to develop an AI platform, as well as a large language model (LLM) that supports various languages, including Korean, English, German, and Japanese, thereby serving customer needs better and more efficiently.
SK Telecom said that Anthropic's chief scientist and co-founder Jared Kaplan will lead the development of the new LLM for the company.
Last month, SK Telecom joined Germany's Deutsche Telekom and Singapore's Singtel to form the Global Telco AI Alliance. The three companies announced a partnership to "accelerate the AI transformation of existing telecommunications businesses and create new business opportunities through AI services."

SK Telecom CEO Ryu Young-sang said the company aims to play a leading role in fostering the AI ecosystem together with global telecom companies, building on SK Telecom's Korea-specific AI technologies and Anthropic's global AI capabilities.
Anthropic is an AI safety research and development company, founded in 2021, by former members of OpenAI, the founder of the famous ChatGPT application. Anthropic is headquartered in San Francisco (USA), with outstanding products, such as AI virtual assistant Claude.
