Nearly 100 people running red lights in Ho Chi Minh City were punished.

Nearly 1,600 violations occurred on the first day of Decree 168/2024; including 97 cases of running red lights in Ho Chi Minh City.


On January 2, information from the Traffic Police Department (PC08) of Ho Chi Minh City Police said that on the first day of implementing Decree 168/2024, the Ho Chi Minh City traffic police force penalized nearly 1,576 violations.

Nearly 1,600 violations were handled on the first day of implementing Decree 168/2024.

Of which, 70 cases were fined for driving in the wrong lane; 605 cases for alcohol concentration violations; 108 cases for speeding; 31 cases for entering a prohibited road; 97 cases for not obeying traffic signals; 6 cases for driving while under the influence of drugs... The total amount of fines was more than 6 billion VND.

According to PC08, all violations are strictly handled by traffic police and there are no exceptions for any case.

In addition, all violations were recorded by the Traffic Police with images and clips for comparison with the violators. At the same time, the Traffic Police of Ho Chi Minh City also temporarily detained 664 motorbikes, 18 other vehicles and temporarily detained the driving licenses of more than 300 cases.

The Traffic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police noted that according to Decree 168/2024, intentional acts that are highly dangerous and are the direct cause of traffic accidents will have a sharp increase in fines.

In addition to increasing fines, authorities also apply a new form of punishment: deducting points from driving licenses.

Specifically, drivers will have 2-12 points deducted depending on the violation. At least 6 months after all points are deducted, drivers must take a test to have these points restored.

Similarly in Dong Nai : On January 2, according to the Traffic Police Department of the Provincial Police, on the first day Decree No. 168/ND-CP/2024 dated December 26, 2024 of the Government regulating administrative sanctions for violations of order and traffic safety in the field of road traffic; deduction of points, restoration of driving license points took effect (January 1, 2025), the whole province had nearly 500 violations recorded.

Of these, there were 90 cases of alcohol violations, 72 cases of speeding, 68 cases of driving without a license, running red lights, encroaching on lanes... (total estimated fines of more than 1.2 billion VND). Thereby, the traffic police force revoked 63 driving licenses, temporarily detained 131 vehicles of all kinds...

According to the Traffic Police Department of Dong Nai Province Police, before Decree No. 168 took effect, the traffic police force in the whole province had arranged officers and appropriate equipment. Priority was given to using surveillance systems, handheld cameras... to record propaganda, remind and handle traffic participants.

In particular, during the performance of their duties, the traffic police force will strictly handle violators with the motto "no forbidden zones, no exceptions".
