The year 2024 marks a significant milestone in the work concerning Vietnamese people abroad as it commemorates the 20th anniversary of the implementation of Resolution No. 36-NQ/TW of the Politburo .
Gathering resources from overseas Vietnamese
According to Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, 2024 will also be a year of increased activities connecting the Vietnamese community abroad with the homeland. Annual events such as the Spring Homeland Festival, the delegation of overseas Vietnamese attending the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, the delegation of overseas Vietnamese visiting Truong Sa, the Vietnam Summer Camp, and the Vietnamese language training course for Vietnamese teachers abroad... attract the participation of a large number of overseas Vietnamese from all over the world .

Efforts to support the community in preserving and promoting the Vietnamese language continue to be strengthened through the implementation of the Project "Day of Honoring the Vietnamese Language in Overseas Vietnamese Communities". A prime example is the donation of five Vietnamese language book collections to communities in Taiwan (China), France, the Czech Republic, Australia, and New Caledonia.
Furthermore, the immense resources from the Vietnamese community abroad have been strongly mobilized to contribute to the country's economic development. By 2024, overseas Vietnamese had invested in 421 FDI projects with a total registered capital of up to US$1.72 billion, and remittances sent back to Vietnam in 2024 were estimated at US$16 billion, continuing to be an important resource for the country's economic development amidst the ongoing difficulties in the global economy and in the countries where overseas Vietnamese reside.
Notably, the participation of hundreds of Vietnamese intellectuals and experts abroad in scientific, technological, and educational cooperation projects has made valuable contributions in many strategic areas.
In particular, the 4th World Conference of Overseas Vietnamese and the Forum of Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts in 2024 is a significant highlight, bringing together 500 delegates from 42 countries and more than 70 presentations on topics such as artificial intelligence, green economy, circular economy, etc.
The delegates all highly appreciated the event, viewing it as a "Dien Hong Conference," demonstrating the Party and State's spirit of listening to and respecting the voices of the Vietnamese community abroad.

In addition, overseas Vietnamese intellectuals and scientists were invited to attend the National Conference on Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.
Beyond activities promoting community cohesion within the country, the protection and support of Vietnamese communities abroad have been implemented promptly. Authorities have quickly gathered information and provided assistance to Vietnamese people in areas affected by conflict, natural disasters, and fires.
In particular, the Vietnamese community abroad has also demonstrated a deep spirit of solidarity and sharing with their compatriots at home, engaging in numerous charitable activities to help orphaned children and participate in eliminating temporary and dilapidated housing. Following the severe damage caused by Typhoon Yagi, overseas Vietnamese donated over 58 billion VND along with a large quantity of relief goods, demonstrating their strong attachment to their homeland.
The achievements made in 2024 have affirmed the important role of overseas Vietnamese in the building and development of the country. At the same time, it is also clear evidence of the Party and State's concern and care for the overseas Vietnamese community.
"With these solid foundations, we believe that the Vietnamese community abroad will continue to play an important bridging role, contributing to Vietnam's further progress in the new era," Ms. Hang emphasized.
To unite Vietnamese people towards a Vietnam full of aspirations.
According to Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, the 2025 Spring Homeland Festival is not only a cultural and political event, but also a bridge connecting the Vietnamese diaspora worldwide with their homeland. It is an opportunity for everyone to look towards a Vietnam full of aspirations, rising strongly in the new era, ready to embrace challenges and opportunities for sustainable development.
“2025 marks a crucial stage in the country's development journey. Mobilizing resources from the Vietnamese community abroad is considered a strategic and central task, playing a vital role in the country's socio-economic development,” Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed.
First, work related to overseas Vietnamese needs to continue to be implemented in a comprehensive, integrated, and innovative manner. This is not only the responsibility of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese but also the responsibility of the entire political system, the joint efforts of the whole society, and overseas Vietnamese around the world.
According to Ms. Hang, all policies and guidelines related to the Vietnamese community abroad must be built on the spirit of national unity, ensuring the maximum utilization of the material and spiritual resources of overseas Vietnamese, while also demonstrating the affection and responsibility of the Party, the State, and the people of Vietnam towards the community far from the homeland.
The focus of mobilizing resources from overseas Vietnamese is to support the community in stabilizing their lives, integrating well into their host countries, and developing sustainably. This not only helps overseas Vietnamese enhance their capacity to contribute to their homeland but also builds the image of a united and strong Vietnamese community globally.
At the same time, activities to care for and protect the legitimate rights and interests of overseas Vietnamese will be strengthened, thereby consolidating trust and close ties between the overseas Vietnamese community and the country.
“In the context of new developments, we need to find new drivers to connect communities with each other and with the homeland. Therefore, we need to constantly innovate methods of supporting and mobilizing communities to contribute to national development, maximizing and fully utilizing the potential of the community,” shared Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang.
Furthermore, creating a favorable policy environment is also a key factor. The State will continue to improve policies and laws to encourage overseas Vietnamese to invest, do business, and contribute to the country.
Furthermore, building an open and cohesive cultural space between the Vietnamese community at home and overseas will be a solid foundation for preserving national identity, fostering pride, and instilling a sense of responsibility towards their homeland in each overseas Vietnamese.
Ms. Hang believes that, in the new era, leveraging the resources of overseas Vietnamese is not only a goal but also a vibrant manifestation of the spirit of national unity. This is a tremendous driving force for Vietnam to rise strongly and overcome challenges.
Over the past 20 years, we have witnessed the all-round development of the Vietnamese diaspora community worldwide. It is estimated that there are currently over 6 million Vietnamese people living in more than 130 countries and territories, including over 600,000 intellectuals and professionals. In the past year, despite many difficulties and challenges, the Vietnamese diaspora community has remained fundamentally stable, and its role and position in society have been enhanced.”
