World coffee prices fell sharply on both London and New York exchanges after rising continuously since the beginning of the week. Robusta coffee prices fell by 216 USD/ton and Arabica coffee prices fell by 22.8 US cents/lb for May delivery, on a day of strong liquidation speculation on the coffee exchange.
Domestic coffee prices today, March 7, 2025, turned down by 2,000 VND/kg, currently trading in the range of 2,000 - 131,000 - 132,000 VND/kg.
Prices fell on favorable weather forecasts in two of the top coffee growers and producers, Brazil and Vietnam. Expected rains in major growing regions in Brazil have triggered a wave of liquidation of coffee futures contracts. Hot, dry weather in Brazil for the rest of the week will give way to several rainy days next week, helping to ease the drought. Forecasts also show the possibility of rain every day next week in the Central Highlands, Vietnam’s largest coffee growing region.
But just a day earlier, the market was still reeling from one of the worst droughts in history, with coffee farmers in Brazil selling nearly all of their crop months before the new harvest began, as prices for the crop nearly doubled to a 14-month high, Reuters reported.
In addition, the market showed uncertainty, the growth outlook was uncertain due to concerns about the impact of tariffs on inflation and the US economy , causing the USD to depreciate. The DXY index at one point touched 104.29 - the lowest level since November 8.
The sharp rise in coffee prices could be difficult for traders, especially if they are unable to receive coffee from farmers under contracts signed months ago, when prices were low.

According to the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa), in February 2025, Vietnam exported 193,031 tons of coffee, with an export turnover of over 1.08 billion USD.
This is the first time coffee exports have brought in more than 1 billion USD in just 1 month. This result is thanks to the highest export output since the beginning of the harvest season, at 50,000 - 155,000 tons/month, and the very high export price of coffee, averaging 5,596 USD/ton.
In the first two months of the year, Vietnam exported 343,331 tons of coffee, with an export turnover of over 1.87 billion USD, of which, exported coffee beans reached 315,615 tons, with a turnover of over 1.65 billion USD, down 14.8% in volume but up 50% in turnover compared to the same period last year.
Coffee prices have remained at a fairly high level, above VND100,000/kg for nearly a year. This trend is expected to continue as supply forecasts have not shown much improvement. Mr. Trinh Duc Minh,
The Chairman of the Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Association shared that, in addition to political and economic factors, coffee prices remain high due to supply and demand factors. Brazil's coffee output is forecast to decrease due to drought, while Vietnam also witnessed a 10-15% decrease in the recent harvest. This has led to a decrease in reserves and inventories.
Recently, the Brazilian Coffee Industry Association (ABIC) predicted that in the next few months, world coffee prices will continue to increase due to the coffee cultivation situation in Brazil, the world's largest coffee producing and exporting country, accounting for nearly half of the world's output, which has struggled over the past four years due to extreme weather, seriously affecting crops.
With Brazil's coffee harvest still a few months away and Vietnam's coffee harvest set to take place later this year, the expert said coffee prices will remain high this year.
