On August 2nd, the Ministry of Health announced that the Drug Administration Department had sent a document to the Departments of Health in provinces and cities, as well as drug import and manufacturing facilities, regarding ensuring the supply of medicines during the 2025 rainy season.
To promptly address the consequences of Typhoon No. 3 and to proactively prepare resources for an effective response to the upcoming 2025 rainy season, the Drug Administration of Vietnam requests the Departments of Health in provinces and cities to direct drug manufacturers, distributors, and importers in their areas to plan for the adequate and timely stockpiling and supply of medicines to meet treatment needs, especially ensuring sufficient quantities of medicines for disease prevention and control in accordance with the diagnostic and treatment guidelines and other guidelines of the Ministry of Health; avoiding drug shortages and price fluctuations.
Healthcare facilities in the area proactively compile lists of essential medicines for the public, promptly plan, order, and purchase additional supplies, and build up reserves to ensure sufficient medicines are available to serve medical situations affected by storms, floods, and epidemics.
The Department of Health shall promptly report to the Ministry of Health (Department of Pharmaceutical Management, Planning and Finance Department) in case of a risk of drug shortages for the prevention and treatment of diseases that may arise after floods in the area.
For drug manufacturers, distributors, and importers, it is necessary to prepare a ready supply of quality drugs at reasonable prices to prioritize the timely and adequate supply for disease prevention and control needs.
The Drug Administration of Vietnam stated that it will prioritize and consider, in accordance with regulations, import orders for drugs and drug raw materials that do not yet have marketing authorization certificates to meet urgent needs in disease prevention and control, and in mitigating the consequences of natural disasters and calamities.
