Vietnam is the world's second-largest coffee exporter. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in 2024, Vietnam exported about 1.32 million tons of coffee, worth $5.48 billion. Although output decreased by 18.8% compared to the previous year, export value increased by 29.1% thanks to strong coffee prices. Vietnam has a particular strength in Robusta coffee, accounting for a large proportion of global Robusta coffee transactions.
However, a worrying fact is that most of Vietnam’s coffee is still exported in raw or simply processed form. The dependence on raw material exports makes the Vietnamese coffee industry vulnerable to fluctuations in world prices, directly affecting the income of farmers and businesses. Meanwhile, the added value of Vietnamese coffee is still low compared to countries that focus on processing, packaging and branding.
On the other hand, the Vietnamese coffee brand in the international market, although known for its origin, is still not strong enough as a final consumer product. Many foreign consumers know about Vietnamese coffee, but do not really love or prioritize choosing Vietnamese brands, except for a few brands that have proactively built their own image. This shows that the potential is still very large, but a deeper investment strategy is needed to increase the value.

Uganda’s coffee exports are forecast to increase 27% year-on-year in the 2024/25 crop year ending September 30, 2025. The East African country, which mainly grows Robusta coffee, is Africa’s largest coffee exporter. Coffee is also one of Uganda’s most important foreign exchange earners.
Uganda’s coffee exports this year could reach 8 million 60kg bags, up significantly from 6.3 million bags last season, according to the National Union of Agricultural and Farm Enterprises (NUCAFE). NUCAFE is an organization representing coffee growers, processors and exporters in the country.
Rising global coffee prices are encouraging Ugandan farmers to expand production. Favorable weather conditions, especially abundant rains, are also supporting yields, promising a bumper crop. Uganda’s coffee exports have steadily increased in recent years as the area under cultivation has expanded.
