* Mr. Tong Xuan Chinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that the production cost of large-scale enterprises fluctuates between 50,000 - 55,000 VND/kg. This means that at present, enterprises are operating below cost price.
“Both farmers and small businesses are struggling because they are operating below cost. Large businesses are also seeing a sharp drop in profits,” he stressed.
According to the Deputy Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry, the total pig herd has reached nearly 29 million. If there is no sudden disease outbreak, Vietnam is not worried about supply at all. However, the biggest concern is when prices will increase, improving farmers' income and businesses' profits.
In addition, the epidemic in livestock is no longer severe because over the years, the toxins have gradually decreased and are no longer as strong as when they first appeared.
“With the current situation, economic growth is not the driving force. We have not found a clear driving force for the livestock industry, we only hope that consumption demand and purchasing power will improve during the Lunar New Year period,” said Mr. Chinh.
