* In the Southern region, pig prices also remained stable following the general market trend.
Accordingly, the highest transaction price in the region is 52,000 VND/kg in Ca Mau province. Lower by one price is Kien Giang province with 51,000 VND/kg.

In 2023, except for a short period of about 2 months in the middle of the year, the selling price of live pigs will be below the cost of raising pigs for most of the remaining time. At present, farmers continue to suffer losses. In addition to weak purchasing power, a lot of imported meat is also an important cause.
According to customs statistics, in 2023, Vietnam spent up to 1.51 billion USD to officially import meat products, meat by-products and edible by-products after animal slaughter. According to experts, the above figure is estimated to decrease by 0.6% compared to 2022; but the actual quantity is higher because the general trend of world meat prices in the past year has decreased sharply.
In addition, taxes and fees for transportation and import into Vietnam are also decreasing. This is one of the factors that makes it difficult for domestic livestock products to compete with imported goods, especially in restaurants and collective kitchens.
