50,000-pig farm 'untouchable' amid African swine fever outbreak
Amid the African swine fever (ASF) outbreak, a farm in Ba Ria - Vung Tau caused a big surprise when it maintained a herd of nearly 50,000 pigs completely safe. What is the secret behind this solid "fortress"?
Market 'shaken', one farm remains 'steadfast'
The African swine fever situation is complicated. As of early August 2025, more than 970 outbreaks have appeared in 710 communes and wards nationwide, causing serious damage. In the Ba Ria - Vung Tau area, 4 ASF outbreaks have been recorded.
Despite the epidemic "storm", Trang Linh Company Limited in Xuyen Moc commune still maintains a herd of nearly 50,000 pigs, without recording any cases of disease. This success is explained by the closed farming model, applying a high level of biosecurity.
The secret of the "fortress" against the epidemic
According to Mr. Pham Truong Giang, Director of Trang Linh Company, with a dangerous disease that has no cure like ASF, the most important motto is prevention. The entire farm is designed like a "fortress", completely isolated from the outside environment.
Completely autonomous: All factors from seed sources, food, drinking water to waste treatment are strictly controlled and autonomous in a closed system.
No imports: With a breeding herd of about 3,600 sows, the company supplies all breeding stock for the commercial farming system. The risk of pathogens entering from outside is eliminated, helping the herd stay healthy and safe.
This unique model of Trang Linh is a clear demonstration of the effectiveness of biosecurity control, bringing hope to the Vietnamese livestock industry in the context of disease outbreaks.
